Hi Sam,

I've read the same quote attributed to Alfred Vanderbilt. Its good that he kept Native Dancer intact :).

Well, if he's the source, you have to admit that it's probably a good thing he didn't geld Discovery either...

Hi Mahubah,

I didn't put them together. He'd better have said this before 1953 or else he was a bit daft or I'd have to wonder if he said it at all.

Good point.

I've also heard that quote attributed to E. P. Taylor when talking about Northern Dancer, but obviously gelding Nearctic would have been a HUGE mistake....

The Tb breeders that lead the pack use many formulas to consistently breed those superior runners.

When one researches their breeding methods, it will reveal many successful breeding patterns.

Thats why those successful breeders are dominant in their field.

Hi Shammy: HTR brings back many pleasant memories, as HTR trainer Hirsch Jacobs was my training idol when I was in my teens.

I still have an autograph picture of Walter Blum on Affectionally in the winners circle.

Hirsch Jacobs was a racing pigeon fancier like me, Hirsch came into the TB and won everything in sight.

Hirsch was one of the best claming trainers in the industry. HJ claimed Stymie and Stymie won the Brooklyn Handicap before he was retired.

Best part of getting into your senior years, is all the pleasant memories you collect along the years. Long live the TB and thanks for the memories.
