Invasor [ARG]

Thanks, Georgerz! Subtract a year from Ausus' age and she's what was expected from Invasor. She's still developing, too. The terrific closing kick that went under the radar (who watches the trailer unless they're well known?) is new. She was a grinder until the Modesty Handicap. I hope we get to see her best.
Street Invader finished 4th of 10 in a 6.5f race at Parx. He had post 10 and broke slowly, 9th, split rivals on the turn, "and was too late". This guy is due for some racing luck! Last time he was squeezed back at the start.

Adeem was shortened to 2000m (about 10f) from 2400m and came in second by a neck. Running on dirt in Sweden he has 2 wins and 3 seconds this year.

Another Turf Filly!
Invading Humor won an Allowance on the Inner Turf at Saratoga at a mile. She went right to the front with the 0.90 favorite pressing her into the stretch. After wearing down that one, she held off the closers to win by 3/4 in 1:36.12.

Last time at 5.5f Invading Humor tried to break through the gate and was 12th at the start, but closed furiously to get 4th. This time they gave her more room, a mile, which she didn't need. But she demonstrated endurance! Saratoga is the right place to show off.

Mr Paladin stumbled badly at the start of a 5.5f allowance at Parx, bumped into a rival and still managed to finish 2nd, 1 1/4 lengths behind the winner - and 6 lengths ahead of the rest. Mr Paladin is a fighter, a cybertoast to him!

Golf Juan was 3d of 14 in a 1300m (6.5f) Handicap on synthetic at Deauville. He finished a length plus a head behind the winner. It's good to see him returning to form!

Persecucion was 9th of 14 in a 1000m (5f) race on dirt in Japan Aug 17. She finished about 3 3/4 (-0.7 seconds) behind the winner.

Her best races were on turf and on dirt when the track condition was translated as "failure". She seems to be a turf horse or an off track specialist but has run on on fast dirt ever since, maybe the weather is dry at this time of the year. Her trainer also shortened her up a furlong this time, which made no difference.

Muzu 2010 made his debut at Arllington in an MSW at 1 1/6 on turf for 3 and older. He's royally bred out of a mare that won stakes and was 3d in G1 races in France twice. Muzu showed no early speed but was 7th, 5 lengths from the front, racing widest of all, into the far turn then fell back to finish 9th, 12 1/2 lengths behind the winner.

He was one of 2 horses making their debut and raced without Lasix (worth more than 10 lbs). His works are about mid-pack, the other debut horse had faster works and Lasix and pressed the pace into the stretch but weakened to 5th. MUZU could improve in his next race or he could be a very late developer that will take time to come around. Here he is:

Jackpot Josie is a winner of 3 sprints whose last win was at 6f in a claimer she wired at Remington Park. She ran 1/4 in 23.80 - remember that number. She was claimed out of that race by her current trainer, and has raced for him 4 times finishing 4th, 3d, 3d and 8th (last) this time in a 4f allowance with 1/4 in 22.06 - much faster than when she won. Allowance horses are better and 4f is shorter so they ran like gangbusters and Josie was 2nd by a head at 1/4 then faded. Before that she was 4th in a 5.5f ALW, 23.24 (close up, gave way), 3d in a 6f ALW, 23.73 (pressed pace, weakened) and 3d in a 4f CLM (UNHURRIED EARLY, passed tired rivals). Bettors expected allowance horses to go faster than claimers and Josie to finish further back than 3d and sent her off at 35-1. In fact she was hurried at the start, not unhurried, and faded all the way to last.

Her trainer may have been doing what his European trainers did with front running Rawaafed: shorten the distance if he weakened. But in shorter dashes he had to run faster to get in front and weakened anyway. The solution was for him to be unhurried early. Josie was 3d at 4f when she was unhurried early, compared to 8th when she contested the pace. If she won't rate she should run longer races so she can get to the front early and still be running. Invasor and dam sire Dehere should have passed her some distance genes. She also has turf ancestry. Maybe ....

Shamadaan ran in another $5000 claimer at Mountaineer for new connections at 5f and finished 6th beaten 7 lengths. Unless something is physically wrong with him the problem is simple and so is the solution.

North Invasion was 4th of 11 in a 2000m handicap at Marseille Borely. She missed 3d by a neck. There are no notes for the race.

North Invasion won by 6 lengths on an off track at 2600m. He trainer is running her shorter and on good turf, she has yet to win under those conditions.

Montford Park was the front-runner in a 1 1/16 mile MCL on turf at Ellis Park. The jockey just let 'er rip - Montford Park was 5 lengths in front of the field at 1/2 and ran 3/4 more than a second faster than the pace of his last race. Then he tired and finished 4th, beaten 6 3/4 lengths. What if he had slowed the pace a bit?

Al Faatik raced at Golden Gate Fields in a 6f sprint on synthetic. He was going to run in a turf race at a mile&70 after his maiden win, which would have been interesting, but was scratched. Al Faatik is puzzling if you only have charts to look at. He seems to persevere if he is well placed after 1/4, otherwise forget it. His races alternate between races where he looks competitive and races where he doesn't show much. In his first dirt race he was out-sprinted at the start and was no factor. Doesn't like dirt - then he won the next dirt sprint, pressing the pace, taking the lead and holding on through similar fractions. It's not what he can do but what he will do and it's decided in the first part of the race, that's my theory. If it's true he'll persevere longer in races with softer early fractions: longer races. (unless he gets bumped or squeezed early). In this race the fractions were fast (for polytrack). Al Faatik broke first but got passed and was 5th at 1/4 and continued to fall back, finishing 11th of 12.

Shamadaan finished 2nd by a neck in a 5f race at Mountaineer. He came from next to last to stalk the pace in the turn and challenge the leader in the stretch but was denied at the finish. Next time!

Shamadaan changed connections after his first poor race at Mountaineer and his new trainer ran him at 5f in the same style, don't hurry early come on late - but he finished next to last, "no factor". Now that it worked I looked again and he went wider to avoid a horse that slowed, probably lost his momentum. So he seems to have a trainer that's training him. Here's hoping he's returning to form!

Holy Invader finished 3d of 10, 1/2 length (2 necks) behind the winner in a 1 1/16 mile turf AOC at Gulfstream. Formerly a confirmed front runner, he was 7th and 8th most of the race. He had some traffic problem or disagreement with his jockey (was steadied, lugged in) but came running in the stretch and was gaining at the finish. In his return to racing he was 3d on dirt at 7.5f, 6 lengths behind the winner and losing ground at the finish. The longer distance was better for him (at 1 1/8 he'd have won this race). He doesn't overcome problems on dirt but keeps fighting on turf. This was a good third.
