To add to the Real Quiet discussion. I completely agree with Rokeby. Real Quiet has come closer than any horse since Affirmed to winning the Triple Crown (lost Belmont by a nose). He carried on to race at 4. He's one of the horses that was ejected from Kentucky prematurely (IMO), and one that has been tabbed by the American Thoroughbred Review as an 'unequivocal failure'. Another very nice example of the failure's offspring is Wonder Lady Anne L, winner of last year's CC American Oaks, who came back after a long layoff last weekend to come third in a GII stakes.
Real Quiet may have been 'fish'-like when he was running, but by all accounts he has filled out somewhat.
Pa is lucky to have Real Quiet in my opinion. He may have been hurt by the tragedy that struck Regal Heir last year, but with him being at Pin Oak now I think that he will get good support. I hope so.
What stallions offer value?

Midnight Lute is no "failure."
Real Quiet was given very little chance. And considering that he's been bred to a lot of Philly Park slowpokes, I don't think his numbers are all that terrible. He hasn't moved many mares up based on the AEI/CI, but maybe he's been bred to mares that couldn't be moved up.
For the same $5,000, I'd take him in a heartbeat over a stallion like Behrens. Most Behrens offspring should be wearing a straw hat at a carnival somewhere.
