It's pretty much the same with ANY animal. When I am home my cats are nice to my guests but if I am not around one of them could very well pin her ears and go after anyone who is in or near my bedroom. I will not tolerate her pinning her ears or growling at me and she knows that but she will test anyone who comes in the space. She is, without a doubt, the strangest cat I have ever had, she is a die hard lap cat, purrs non stop but she will turn on a dime if she thinks something is in my space or hers.

Yep. A friend's poodle was cute and sweet as could be, but he'd go under the bed whenever he wanted. If you reached under there for him, he would bite to draw blood with no hesitation.

I think there need to be another catagory after Touch like Killer! Festival Of Light, Aly T, Corslew, Silver Ghost, etc. should be moved there along with those that tried their best to kill someone!

Sportin' Life's trainer did die out riding him but since nobody saw it it's hard to say if it was the horse's fault or not. I wouldn't call a horse who bucks someone off a killer just because they landed wrong. But I don't think he was "nice" either.

I saw Southern Halo once at Ashford. Two lads put on leather gloves and one grabbed an axe handle before they went in to get him. Not a horse to be casual with.

Hastings's dam, Cinderella was supposed to be one of the meanest mares in history as was Flying Fox's dam Vampire, who was aptly named. Vampire killed a groom when she was very young.

Although not a thoroughbred, I had an appaloosa yearling stud that should have been behind bars in a zoo. No, I had never tried to breed him. He was an absolute maniac. He tried to climb out of stalls, jump out of a paddock with a fence he couldn't even see out of (solid wood and he wasn't tall enough to see over). He went after a vet once and grabbed him by the shoulder and shook him. The vet gelded him for free once he recovered. He was bad after he was gelded, too.

vineridge - your post had me very curious about this mare. I never found anything on her killing a person, however I did find articles pertaining to her killing one of her foals as well as savaging the groom that tried to stop it.

We should start a savage mare thread, I've known a few of these!

All the Seeking the Gold comments are amusing to me.

I have a Seeking the Gold mare out of a Halo mare (ha!) and she is as sweet as can be. But the minute her foal stood up and was nursing and fine, she was very quick to get everyone out of the stall and not let them in for a few hours. Funny how she was docile as can be while the foal still needed assistance.

I know Crafty Prospector's dam was a mean, high-strung mare.
