I read this earlier today. Thought about your mare who didn't want to give up her foal story.......

http://breeding.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=34032

link to the article I read.
I thought his retirement was announced but the article implies it could change.

Here is another tidbit I read on Crafty today: Thoroughbred Review article from their archive.

Crafty Prospector (25 sold, $35,824 average): With average earnings per starter over $100,000 and strong numbers all the way around, you’d have a hard time finding anyone who will argue against his value. But there’s an added bonus when you sign a ticket for one of his yearlings: They’re absolute iron horses. Unlike many of the sires who come from this sire line, Crafty Prospector instills durability in the vast majority of his foals, lessening the chance that buyers will end up with a money pit that never sees a race.

Discovery possibly?

Discovery was considered an Iron Horse himself. Just speculation.

Well, she's been at a farm that is much closer to the stud farm for a long time now, and there's apparently been one problem after another in timing her cycle such that she could get a good cover. She was covered once by Crafty P but didn't take from that cover. She was supposed to be bred to him last week, but due to the colic thing plus the fact that there was apparently another cycle issue, it didn't get done. She's now hopefully on her way to Private Terms for one try there, if they can get her cycle where it needs to be at the right time before the shed closes. It's been frustrating, especially since she was such an easy, clockwork mare to breed last year (but then again we had her and the stallion both here so it was pretty simple.) So, it looks like she won't produce one of the last ever Crafty P. foals after all.

Roguelet,

Sorry to hear that, though I like Private Terms as a stallion.

If I recall the choices were narrowed to Crafty and Quest. How did Private Terms squeek in there?

If Crafty stands next year, will you consider sending her to him again? It sounded like it was a possibility he might.

Jon, you're right... it was originally down to Crafty P. and Quest. But, this mare is being leased from us, and the lessee chose to go with Private Terms as a second choice instead of Quest. There wasn't a lot of time to make that decision, because up until last week the plan was still to try for a Crafty P. foal. I'm not sure what swayed the decision.

Sunday Silence... I don't know. The lessee has the option of leasing this mare again next year, but I don't know what his thoughts are on that at this point. I don't know if he would be interested in trying for that mating next year if it becomes a possibility or not. It will probably depend on whether or not she gets pregnant on her next cover in addition to what happens with Crafty P. next year.
