Best Values Top Five!!

Postby Derby2004 » Sat Jun 17, 2006 10:21 am

Here is a list of my top five stallion values for 10k and under for breed to race operations.

1. Sweetsouthernsaint- 64st, 46 wnrs, 6 SWS, 3 SPs, 1.72 AEI vs .98 CI, $43,464 avg earn. Can get a big horse, not commercial for yearlings or weanlings. Two year olds are somewhat commercial averaging $34k. Puts a lot of stamina and can be versatile.

2. Concerto- 137st, 104 wnrs, 12 SWS, 7 SPs, 1.71 AEI vs 1.40 CI, $53,427 avg earn. Needs a mare with some height. Can also get the big horse, I like the In Reality as broodmare sire, nice outcross for Seattle Slew and Mr P line mares. Open to a large population of broodmares. Very versatile stallion that can get a miler or classic. Raced 21 times winning 10, 9 stakes. Fast 2 yo. $44k avg for 2yos in training. Not commercial for yearling market. Best is yet to some after Bellamy Road.

3. Matty G- 108st, 76 wnrs, 7 SWs, 6 SPs, 1.26 AEI vs 1.09 CI, $47,430 avg earn. Can get you a sprinter or up to possibly classic distance. His best crops are just now hitting the track. So I expect his AEI to raise. Darby Dan has a lot of hope in him. Can also get a precocious 2 yos.

4. Victory Gallop- 156st, 118 wnrs, 13 SWS, 8 SPs, 1.77 AEI vs 1.77 CI, $68,611 avg earn. A great sire of fillies, but can get an ugly baby. Started out at 30k stud fee, now at 10k, but holding his own. Should put some durability in his babies. Commercial if the baby looks good. Needs a nice built mare that is put together. Might not be at Winstar too long though.

5. Slew City Slew- 520st, 383 wnrs, 36 SWs, 37 SPs, 1.50 AEI vs 1.44 CI, $57,624 avg earn. Can get a big time horse, i.e. Lava Man, Maysville Slew, Sis City. No commerical side at all really. A very big undervalued sire. Should turn out to be a decent broodmare sire. Has a good son at stud also, Evansville Slew. Foals like distance.

There are also horses I think are on the rise and will one day be a consistent, go to sire. They are

Trippi
Doneraile Court
Deputy Commander

hi Derby2004

Nice synopsis of your top 5, breed-to-race stallions for $10k and under...

...but re: your follow-up list of 3, I have some doubts re: Doneraile Court but even more doubts re: Trippi. He seems to have difficulty getting much in the way of a two-turn horse...and even his (only) one stakes-winner (A Sea Trippi) is arguably not particularly impressive...but she seems to have found her niche sprinting.

Deputy Commander might become a solid breed-to-race stallion, and could potentially have his commercial appeal (at least to some extent) resuscitated. He is capable of getting a classics threat.

That said, it wouldn't surprise me to see (at some time) his stud fee possibly move back (at least to some extent) in the direction (upward) where he started.

Best to you.

Thanks FOS, I just have a feeling about Doneaile Court and Trippi. Trippis babies are still selling well and some people still seem to have faith in him. He is still a top ten second year sire. Doneraile Court has gotten better mares since Rulers Court and has a lot of quality in the pipeline according to Stonewall. So I am pulling for him. Deputy Commander I believe will be a good sire. His stats are a little unimpressive, but look at his home run babies he has gotten. As it was said before, his babies post Ten Most Wanted are going to be hitting the track this year and next. So its time to tell for him. Regardless his babies sell well also if they look the part.

There are a lot of other stallions that out there that are a good value, but those were my favorite. Any one of them can get a G1 winner anyday of the week. Particularly Concerto and Sweetsouthernsaint.

If he stays in Florida I expect to see his stud fee ratcheted up (from his current $3,500)...

...that said, I would not be surprised to see him moved to the bluegrass, possibly sooner rather than later.
