Top 10 2004 sires!!

Postby Derby2004 » Sat Jun 17, 2006 11:24 am

While I am at it, here are the horses I believe are the top incoming sires of 04 whose first crop races in 07.

1. Empire Maker
2. Proud Citizen
3. Mineshaft
4. Vindication
5. Yankee Gentleman
6. Sky Mesa
7. Posse
8. Hold That Tiger
9. D'Wildcat
10. Harlans Holiday

Most of these anybody would have guessed, but D'Wildcat, Yankee Gentleman, and Hold That Tiger are just personal favorites that I think will be top tier stallions. All were very fast race horses as 2 yos and their babies are looking the part.

3. Najran
4. Proud Citizen
5. Macho Uno
6. Whywhywhy
7. Essence of Dubai
8. Sunday Break (JPN)
9. Milwaukee Brew
10. Empire Maker (if I must)

Not a high quality year here.

hi guys

As you know...many sires that might be described as successful (to varying degrees of course), began their careers at stud standing for $10,000 or less.

For starters...some examples (some recent...some not so recent) including initial stud fees +-: Successful Appeal ($4,000)...Distorted Humor ($7,500)...Elusive Quality ($10,000)...Stormy Atlantic ($3,500)...Songandaprayer ($10,000)...Saint Ballado ($2,500)...Maria's Mon ($7,500)...Dynaformer ($3,500)...Mr Prospector ($7,500)...Kris S ($1,500) etc etc etc.

That said...among the stallions retired to stud in 2004...I submit that the A.P. Indy son Full Mandate (who started at $5,000) could very possibly hit the Big-time...and also be a sire of classics-threats.

Respectfully

Austique, if you dont mind, there are a couple of your choices that maybe you can elaborate on. Im not too familiar with the buzz on them.

1. Najran, he did equal a world racord, but him standing at Hopewell has me kind of doubting.

2. Kafwain, doesnt the bottom side worry you?

3.Macho Uno, Holy Bull can get a good horse every now and then, but his overall stats are not that impressive. Ill hold out on him.

Najran comes from the same sire as the also brilliantly fast Cherokee Run and the world record is nothing to sneeze at. His current farm is a major concern though.

Kafwain's bottom-side doesn't really bother me that much. While a nice bottom side can help in narrowing down selections for unproven sires, it does't matter a whole lot once the foals hit the track. He's a bit of a sentimental pick as well as we have one on the ground. Also, Darley picked up a nice one at KEE NOV last year and there was an exceptional looking filly by him that also went through KEE NOV.

Macho Uno...just a shot in the dark. He is a half to Awesome Again and even though he had some soundness issues, I think he'll produce a sounder foal than his big brother. And he's pretty

Basically when I say long term success, I mean they'll hang around where they're at and produce useful horses. I'm not predicting any of these to be A.P. Indy

Najran would be better off at a larger farm. He was a VERY fast horse and his babies were well received as weanlings. But his 2 dams haven't really done much. That IS my only knock against him, besides the farm. Kafwain has been very commercial thus far. I just see During as a better pick for a Cherokee Run son. He brings more to the table. But as long as you are happy with the resulting foal, that is all that matters. Darley is a great operation that supports their studs and I hope for the best for you and your little Kafwain.

I'm going to have a little During next year, so I'll be able to compare and contrast.
