Hi MikeC,

Tabasco Cat's first foals raced in 1999 so there were few of his daughters in the shed before the 2001 breeding season and thus the oldest of these are currently 4yos in 2006. Success as a broodmare sire builds more slowly than as a sire. It's normal for a small trickle of SWs become a flood in the good ones as the breeding base of daughters builds. There are probably about 50 3-4yo foals by his daughters at this time so 1 SW is light but not yet meaningful.

He was bred to some very nice mares (in 2002 his CI was a very high 3.04) and it's probable that he'll start getting SWs from these girls. Remember that his get weren't precocious like Storm Cat and that may be true of his next generation. Keep in mind that exceptional broodmare sires average 7%-8% SWs and the best rarely hit 10% (Dr. Fager is close). Look at the quality of winners that his daughters produce for the best guide to future quality, potential and commercial value.

I wouldn't be afraid to buy a nicely bred Tabasco Cat mare especially because you might get a bargain. By the end of 2007 he should have @5-6SWs if he's on track and @10-12SWs a year later.

Pete

Thanks for that thoughtful reply Pete. I agree with you & sure hope we're both right 'cause this morning I bought a Tabasco Cat mare named beach barbicue. Fell in love with the pedigree !
