Any thoughts on what happened to him on the track as to why he only
had Five Starts. What's the opinion on him as a Stallion Prospect.
Thanks

He was absolutely a rocket on the track. Gates open and bye bye.
He started very young and I often wonder how he might have done had he been broken in the spring of his second year rather than broken down at that time.
He was the best early 2yo at CD that year.
I would not be surprised if he sired some tough, early developing runners, buy don't think they will be commercial until proven.

He was a very fast 2 year old in the sprint races, obviously. Whether that will translate into being a successful sire remains to be seen. He's heavily influenced with the RAN and Mr P inbreeding... but then again that's pretty common in today's sires so.....
Successful Appeal has proven to be an excellent sire of above average runners and is also capable of getting the "big horse" (Closing Arguement). Add to that SA did not have a real strong book of mares so he has proven his worth the hard way. Now, whether SA will be a "sire of sires" is the question for anyone looking to breeed to Lunarpal. SA comes from a successful sire line of runners but may be a tad weak in the "sire of sires" side of things... but not so as weak as to dismiss Lunarpal as a sire.
We know if Lunarpal was by say Forestry or Hennesy or another currently fashionable stallion he would probably be listed at $15,000 whilst standing in Kentucky. So at $2,500 he is certainly worth considering especially if you are looking for a Louisiana bred.
Of course for $2,500 you can breed to a fairly proven/successful sire in Ide whose Junior College just set a NTR at Ellis last week in a $50,000 stake going 6 1/2. Also, Ide sired Woozy a current 2 year old who won the DS Shine at Evd. a few weeks back. Ide also has sired several other good runners down through the years and was a precosious 2 year old himself winning 5 of 7 at 2 and 7 of 9 lifetime including 4 Graded stake races all going a distance of ground.
You may be able to get the price down on Lunarpal just a bit or get a "two-fer" if you negotiate explaining your concern with an unproven sire. They are looking to make a name for Lunarpal so they should be anxious to "deal".
