Honor and Glory - Good Choice?

Postby tbrace » Sat Jul 22, 2006 6:54 pm

Will Honor and Glory be a good addition to Wintergreen? His AEI vs. CI is not very good. Does anyone know what might account for that with him?

The Wintergreen guys seem to know what they are doing, but what makes Honor and Glory a good value?

Coolmore and 8,000 foals. He's a solid sire. I was told they were possibly going to keep him around the same fee. I had hoped they might drop him a bit. He's not a go to sire for every mare, but if you've got one that fits him, you could do a lot worse.

Austique,
thanks for your insights. Does he have commercial value in your opinion, or more a breed for race guy?

I think he's pretty risky in the ring. I'd look more breed to race with him unless they drop his fee a bit.

I agree, he looks like more of a breed to race stallion.

Given what we know at this time of the year, how commercial do you think Five Star Day will be next year? Who do you like from the 2nd crop stallions, commercially, for next year's breedings?

I think at this point with Five Star Day I'm on the fence. He's had a decent year on the track, but early yearling returns were soft compared to last year as were his 2yo returns. If after Keenland he gets his yearling median back up to $45,000, he'd be worth a look.

This 2nd crop group is pretty weird. I think Forest Camp has held his value best of the bunch along with Songandaprayer, but I think you'd have to watch what they do later in the year on the track to get a good feel for where they're going longer term. Songandaprayer has the sexier representative in Songster, but he's 'spensive and his babies don't seem to hold together.

City Zip and Broken Vow are two sleepers I'm watching. They're not overly commercial, but they're both inching up there and they offer fair value for the fee. Again both I would be unwilling to pull the trigger on until after Sept.
