He was put down after fracturing a leg. It was not repairable. I can't take much more of this. RIP, lovely Saint Liam.

This year has been terrible in the racing world. I just turned the channel to HRTV and there was the news. They showed the video of him winning the BC Classic.
I can't take much more either....
RIP Saint Liam.

Based on this article, he was just "goofing off" when it happened.

Years ago I read the book, "Country Life Farm Diary" and I am going to have to read it again to find the exact quote, but Josh Pons said, in essence, as soon as a horse is born they will repeatedly try to commit suicide.
And as the years go by I truely believe he was right. . . . . . . .

I confess, everyday I get on Bloodhorse prepared to see that Barbaro's taken a turn for the worst (I'm trying to balance hope with potential reality) so I'm ready for bad news--I'm pleasantly surprised when it's something good. I was prepared for something bad like usual but got the gut check about Saint Liam and how exactly he hurt himself.
So many flip themselves over or goof off. Man O' War flipped over at age 2 before the Hudson Stakes at Aqueduct and could've broken his skull or who knows what. His jockey ended up with a bruised hip and strained back but MOW goes on, of course, to win the race. They're just so gloriously wild even as we've tried to tame them, sometimes that's their glory and sometimes their doom. "Playing" is really just an extention of that wildness. Running in a paddock could spell the end just because a horse's being a horse.

Heidi....I'm reading the book on MOW...and enjoying it immensely.
What I am not enjoying is all this horrible news. We are drawn to horses because of their strength and grace...and yet they are so fragile!
RIP Liam....

So what happened? He just reared and flipped over?
