Ten Most Wanted to NY, sire to CA

Postby Heidilady » Fri Sep 29, 2006 2:05 pm

Wow kinda weird but Ten Most Wanted's going to NY and his sire Deputy Commander is off to California.

http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/todays ... 3&subsec=6 TMW is to stand at Sequel Stallions for $7,500 in Hudson, NY.

http://breeding.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=35483 Deputy Commander will stand for $10,500 at Ballena Vista near Ramona, CA.

Why would they give up on TMW when his offspring have yet to make it to the track?
First year at stud $12,500 (2005)
2007 in New York $7,500

I thought it seemed like a curious decision myself. Is lowering his KY fee worse than lowering it and sending him to NY? It's not like his sire's more proven and staying in KY, he's leaving. If I understood what I've read TMW's still Gainesway-owned so one would assume if either there's enough demand or his progeny starts performing they could bring him back. If he's not still a Gainesway horse then pay no attention to the "man" behind the curtain,

This is just more of the Mare Owner Pilfer & Pillage program... by hooking mare owners in the first couple of years with high fees, these farms can MOPP UP and then ship off the horse leaving the last KY crop mare owners holding the bag :D
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

I guess I'll just have another to choose from at Lakland North this season. I know the office has been slow to answer any questions on stallions this fall (unlike in the past where they were on the ball) Theres a lot of changes going on at Lakland North...I see in the release its called Sequel Stallions...maybe the new name of the NY farm since the break of the Lakin and Thomas...or the horse was just for Thomas's Sequel Stallion roster? Who knows?

I have already made my request to breed my mare back to Freud in 2007...she didnt take after foaling her Freud Colt in 2006. I'm expecting a Freud from another mare in 2007 and a Wheelaway from yet another mare...looks like Lakland could be a one stop shop for me next season....time will tell.

Gainesway has so many stallions at various price ranges, that they need to move the less commercial ones along.

Ten Most Wanted is pretty crooked, and I chose to pass on him for various reasons. He's the major runner for his pop, who's had lots of opportunity over the years in KY. Deputy Commander had been way overpriced for his progeny stats at sale and track. Doubtless the consignors and pinhookers have been watching his foals over the years and now those of his son TMW, and are looking elsewhere for their clients. The farm would know what the "buzz" is before the general population knows.

Hopefully the two gents will find suitable mares in their new states. They might be standouts for breed-to-race regional programs.
