Stakes-winner Sort It Out has been retired and will stand stud next year at Vince Tucciarone's Fox Tale Stud in Coopersburg, PA.
Sort It Out, who won the Whirlaway Stakes at Aqueduct and placed second in the Coolmore Lexington Stakes (G2) in 2005, earned $312,318 while winning 4 of 21 career starts. A son of graded stakes winner and prominent Kentucky stallion Out Of Place, Sort It Out is out of the Kris S mare Vex, who is herself out of a full sister to champion and leading sire Forty Niner.
Sort It Out, who also placed in the Win Star Derby and restricted Damon Runyon Stakes and Mike Lee Stakes, will stand as property of a syndicate headed by Robert and Janice McNair's Stonerside Stables and Fox Tale.
"The goal at Fox Tale is to breed commercial yearlings who become stakes-quality two-year-olds, and then go on to compete at the classic level at three," said Tucciarone. "Sort It Out is exactly that kind of horse -- a black-type juvenile who took his owners all the way to the Kentucky Derby. Not only that, he's the only son of Out of Place standing in the Midatlantic region."
Stonerside racing manager John Adger noted the infusion of slots monies into the Pennsylvania program was one of the primary reasons Stonerside decided to partner with Fox Tale in standing Sort It Out. "Pennsylvania has a terrific awards program for stallion owners and breeders, and it's just going to keep getting better," said Adger. "Stonerside has long believed in Out of Place as a sire, and we believe his son will continue his sire's tradition at the sales and on the racetrack. It's not a stretch to say we think Sort It Out will turn out to be one of the best values available to Midatlantic breeders."
Sort It Out will stand for a fee of $2,000, with special consideration to Pennsylvania-resident mares. The Stonerside-Fox Tale partnership is offering a limited number of shares in the horse, as well.
The deal was brokered by Michael Slezak of New Jersey-based Bargain Blueblood.
