He's not popular at the sales, his offspring (I believe) aren't visually appealing. Very big (Caro?), unpolished, big boned, big headed horses. But they are tough, and has sired a good one in One For Rose.
Breed to race.

Mares that were in foal to him brought a decent price at the Woodbine Winter Mixed Sale yesterday (Dec 2). We had one we wanted to bid on but she went for way out of our price range.

that foal that you posted #320 is a good example of a pedigree mixed with great sires that currently are less than popular. As good as Tejano Run was u'd think he would have made a great sire. instead he disappears as seems do all the non-mr. prospector, northern dancer or AP indy (i hesitate to say bold ruler since ap indy is the only one of those left).

in my little one rat breeding program of the '80s and 90's i concentrated on combining bold rulers, on smile and groovy, and broad brush. only one runner in the bunch. i've never figured it out--which is why my current yearling is a grandson of storm cat. i'm going to try going with the flow for once, which would eliminate the Tejano runs.

Tejano Run has not disappeared. He is standing at Ascot Stud in Port Colborne, ON. You can check him out at www.thoroughbredniagara.com under the Stallion page. If you go to the message board on the site, you will also see some posts about the success his foals are having in Europe.

I have a friend who has a couple in foal to Tejano Run from his first Ontario Sired crop. The first is due in February.

Tejano Run is a big coarse type of horse that seems to throw runners.

He's currently standing at Ascot Stud http://www.ascotstudfarm.com. While not a huge operation, they are very easy to work with (I bred a mare to Impeachment), and are quite accomodating.

We had a Tejano Run colt here.

He was a lanky racey thing, but I think that mostly came from his dam's side.

He had the worst feet. He was here for just general "vacation" and once we pulled his shoes he was completely dead lame within days. Like, couldn't walk dead lame.

He was the horse that made me respect so much was Jessi P does (patching up horses). We soaked his feet in epsom salts, packed them with sugar-dine, and put homemade "booties" on his feet every day (1" thick wall insulation cut to his foot size strapped on with vetwrap and duct tape... and sheer will, lol). It took about a month and a half but he finally got him servicably sound.

That was his story, run a handful of times, then patch his feet back together, run a handful of times, etc.

Finally, the farrier, thinking he was some sort of god, purchased the horse and tried to run him. Once or twice I think. Now he's a riding horse. Farrier's final comment was something along the lines of, "he does have really bad feet."

BUT, I will say, that horse had the BEST temperment. Every day to get his foot treatment I would walk him down the aisle and tease the stalled mares with him. Then he would go in a stall, across from mares, and stand getting his feet soaked. Then wrapped. Absolutely never a problem, he would sleep the entire time. Even when his feet started to feel good he was always the same laid-back character. Teasing used to worry him bigtime. Of course, being right off the track he was scared about it anyway, but if those mares weren't in... he wouldn't hardly approach their stall. When they were in he would get really nervous and keep looking at me like he had NO idea what to do now. :)

Overall, I have fond memories. I just hope they aren't breeding him :/
