I'd like to know what folks here think of his influence on the modern day T Bred.
The conformation pic on this site just knocks my socks off.
I don't know if that's too blocky and "set" a look or what, but I love that pic.
Thanks

Lava Man

Lava Man is 5x5 sex balanced on the dam side. Wonder if his success has anything to do with the Herbager? 8 of 9 graded stakes winners with Herbager 5x5 of closer are sex balanced. The other was through two daughters. He seems to love Seattle Slew, TV Lark and Hail To Reason.

Very good research, Pat. And, when do you have time to do it? Leslie needs to find something else for you to do :)

NOSTALGIA'S STAR, G1 SW of $2.1 million in the 80's, was an obscurely bred Cal bred and was 3 x 3 *Herbager. He won stakes from 2 to 6. *Herbager's dam was inbred 2 x 2 Firdaussi (Pharos).

I remember when Bull Hancock imported *Herbager from France in the mid-60's. Photos of the horse were not complimentary. He looked course and squatty. When I saw him in person 10 years later my impressions were confirmed. Yet, *Herbager became an American scion for stamina, class and durability. His overachieving son *Grey Dawn II sired the fabulous VIGORS and many other SW's; his daughters were excellent producers. None of these horses were attractive either.

Coarse and squat?
The pic on this site is certainly very balanced, I can see the "squat" if I "squint"
But wow...I guess it's just the clean lines that appeal.
I love Toccet and he shows up in that ped too.
