Visited McMahon in Saratoga over the weekend

Got to meet one of my favorites, Wheelaway, in the flesh. What a knockout.
He's completely white now, though you had to look closely under the mud!
He's a very personable, handsome, playful fellow and looks like a prizefighter. Had a little fun with the boss, in front of us. Wouldn't give up the shank, then wouldn't go back into his paddock without being led into his shed first. He cut loose, let out a few good bucks and kicks and came roaring at us at the fence. I hope his get do very well. He's off to a nice start. Here's to classic distance runners and patient owners!
Regal Classic, at 22 looks as good as ever, and is right across from Wheelaway.
It was fun to see the SPA in the off season. Very quiet and nice around the holidays.

They are great there, but how do you fiqure Wheelaway is off to a nice start? Given that he had the benefit of state bred races I would say he is off to a terrible start. He is a fun fellow to watch run through the fields. A real looker!

At this point even terrible is an understatement. If he keeps this going through next year he'll be in Mexico in no time!

Not too many stellar mares in his first books. He's already improved a dozen of them.
Remember, this horse was bred for the classics, i.e., not suppposed to get two year olds. Give him time before you throw him under the bus.

As someone who bought a Wheelaway yearling this past fall, I'm certainly hoping that he does well. He certainly hasn't set the world on fire by any stretch of the imagination, but I think it's a little too early to give up on him. At this same time last year, everyone was saying that Point Given was a total bust because he was not siring precocious runners (was that really a surprise), and now he's the second-leading second-crop sire. Time will tell, but I suspect that the Wheelaways will also be late-developers. Case in point, on back to back days at Aqueduct a week and a half ago, he had three firsters in NY-bred maiden races, and had a win, a second and a third.

I have to agree his get are not blazing the tracks on fire thats for sure! Which is a shame considering I have a very nice mare in foal to him and had hoped to sell this foal commercially...doubt its worth my time, money and effort at this time (for sales prep, consignment fees etc...)

Wheelaways get was no worse then the first 2 crops of mares Freud saw...or any other stallion in Ny for that matter.

There has been no new advertising on the horse to keep him promoted with fresh new infomation for the breeders to read about...instead you have to go looking for anything on one of his foals who have run...a shame. I wont be breeding to him again in 07.

I hope this mares first foal from Wheelaway is as nice as I had hoped...but I think my idea of selling commercially is pretty well shot in the ass! Sure hope I like this foal well enough to race it myself. If not its going to be one expensive sport horse!

Saratoga usually does a Victorian Walk in the week before Christmas.
People dress up in Victorian clothes and shops are open and old fashion
vendors on the sidewalks.

Victorian Walk sounds like a great time! Thanks for that information! Actually, Saratoga in a blank of fresh snow should be awesome by itself!

I do think a better picture of Wheelaway should help!! It's almost as if they don't think enough of him to hire the pro! A tale extension at least!

I have seen pictures taken by Barbara Livingston of the horse but they sure as heck dont use them in their advertising thats for sure.

I will say this about the horse....or at least my first hand impressions after dealing with on of his offspring.


I have a colt who just simply had a rough start ...but hes pretty much on the mend and in the clear. Even with his rough beginning hes a coming 2 yr old and is 16.2h! The mass in his knees and hocks is tremendous! He is the perfect Hunter build...or field hunter...which might be where he ends up as his conformation will not allow him to race I dont think and I cant say if his conformation is due to his pedigree or his lack of proper care when he was a weanling. BUT he is by and far the kindest, gentlest, most willing and smartest yearling you could ask for. His size and mass is just impressive.
