Petersburg has died

Postby magic code » Sat Dec 23, 2006 10:13 am

Per the WTBA website, Petersburg died this week. This is a tremendous blow to the Northwest breeding industry. Petersburg had success with just about any mare he got and he was a beautiful gray stallion. Condolences to Guy-Bar Farm.

Petersberg was at Guy-Bar Farm? I thought he was at Eldorado. I thought Guy-Bar was dissolving :?

Yes, Petersburg was in good hands at Guy-Bar. Very kind people and my heart goes out to them.

That is horrible. He was a great stallion in this area! He was getting up there in years though I think. 20 maybe? So sad.....

He Was NEVER at Eldorado Farm, he was always at GUY-BAR Farm in Sunnyside, Washington. He had cancer for quite a while but was very comfortable until the last month or so. Guy Roberts was and is a true horseman and was so accomadating to breeders who wanted to breed to Pete or Ihtimam or Gumboy. He is moving Ihtimam if he hasn't all ready and cut back on his mares due to some health issues. Gumboy will live out his life at Guy's place as far as I know.

Perhaps Bill from Wa can enlighten on the quality of broodmares Petersburg sired. Top Account ought to be a wonderful outcross for many of them. Would also supply healthy doses of the successful Teddy/Hyperion combination. 8)

I know he didn't get the top mares because he was standing on the east side of Washington state. However, he did pretty darn good. He had several Washington Champions, Cocktails Anyone, and Sabertooth to mention a couple.
Top Account will make a nice cross on Petersburg daughters. We have some of our own that we will breed to him.

Just to elaborate on LKR's post, Sabertooth is a world record holder.

Thanks for bringing that to our attention. I was remiss in not mentioning it. Cocktails Anyone was/is among my very favorites to this day.
