His foals seem to sell well, he's nice looking (well looks like a Slew!) but his stats are not particularly good (although it is early yet). Less than 2% SWs from foals. Only average starters/winners if that. Downgrades his mares. I think at $3,500 (or $3,000?) he is overpriced but if I had a mare that looked like a good match and get him at half that or less I'd give it a try. Otherwise I'd wait and see if he improves his stats or doesn't with more foals. Haven't seen any of his foals so can't comment on that.

Hi Reenci,

Depends on what your intentions are for the foal.

Chief Seattle had a respectable year in 2006 but still has a low number of winners from foals. That number will increase as his crops mature but he's probably already seen the best mares he's likely to get in his stud career.

I don't believe that you'll see much for his get in the sales ring. The 2007 Stallion Register shows 105 foals averaging about $22K per foal but that number will be perhaps half that going forward.

The old adage of: A deal is a deal if you can use it makes sense here. You still have expenses and cost associated with any breeding. I would advise that he might be a decent breed to race choice as long as you would be able to control where he was bred/raised and trained.

Good luck,

Pete
