Raise a Native Inbreeding taboo

Postby Toccet02 » Thu Feb 08, 2007 3:24 pm

OK, I've gotten the idea both from this forum and from a breeding 101 article I read somewhere that inbreeding to RAN is likely a recipe for unsound legs.
Can someone name another well-known stallion who they feel inbreeding to is asking for trouble, and why?
Please note: This is NOT an invitation to start another Storm Cat Sucks fight!

I've asked the same question before on this forum and received a variety of different answers.

It would seem that most believe you should look at the sire and mare rather than making a general statement about RAN.

Good luck

Here are all the current stallions inbred to RAN. I would think it would depend upon just how close up the inbreeding is, as well as thru which RAN sons and daughters the inbreeding occurs. Also, I thought Raise A Native blew a tendon. How is that an indication of unsound legs?

Found this article on Raise A Native quite enjoyable. http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/commen ... -time.aspx Apparently, RAN was quite the character as well as a monster talent.
