Pedigree Query

I have a 11 month old colt by Persian Turban(Charming TiaraXSadlers Wells) out of Vintage song(Hit it MistyXBluebird).

I am looking for information on Persian Turban, he is young and didn't race due to injury.

I ended up with the mare rather by accident, but got a really nice colt in the deal. I had told my husband I was only "looking"!
I am trying to decide if I am going to race the colt or sell him as a 2year old in training next year.

Glad to here you like your foal but unfortunately there is not much the foal has to offer commercially.

The foal would have to be an absolute physical standout to even have a chance sell for more than $4000. If you decided to sell in a 2yold in training sale he would have to work brilliantly and if he did work fast wouldn't be fun to race him yourself?

My advice is to take your time and run him yourself.

Perhaps you can name him something like Brilliant Accident or Accidental Hero..

Persian Turban is a well bred, unraced stallion. His Dam (mother) is a 1/2 sister to Seattle Slew, Seattle Dancer and a few other decent ones. I would suggest calling the farm where he stands to find out why he didn't race. If they say he got hurt in training, ask who trained him and talk to the trainer. Every question you can get answered will be helpful in making your decisions and even helpful in marketing the colt IF you should decide to sell him. Also, if he was ever in training, you can get old reports on him, which will give you an idea of whether he had any talent.

Who is the Dam of your colt?

As for commercial value, I would doubt there would be any, unless his other foals of racing age suddenly crop up and get noticed on the track.

I would advise talking to a brutally honest racehorse appraiser or other such knowlegeable individual in the industry . People on the board may be able to help w/reputable types. The key to any IMPORTANT decision is educating yourself. If you aren't truly educated in conformation of a horse, what looks good to you could spell disaster in attempting to race the horse. On the flip side of that, like another poster said, if the colt is truly a well put together specimen, you would want to know that too. Maybe he is a later blooming type, in which case, you wouldn't want to subject him to training too early. (Be advised that every step along the way is money spent, that you may never get back.)

Whoever you get to evaluate your colt (and mare) have it be someone that has NO conflicting interest, i.e., potential sales agent, buyer, trainer, etc. Only a person who has NO interest in BS'ing you will be of value to you, IMO. Depending on where you live, there may be knowledgeable board members that can help you with evaluating what you have in this colt and mare.

If you are a total newbie to the business, the biggest thing you need to do is EDUCATE yourself to the costs, the risks, and everything you need to know to make the correct decision, INCLUDING all the bad things that can happen to the colt and/or the mare, should you decide to just pass them on to someone else.

We named the colt Sadlers Well Done, and yes I know it is alot to live up to. His stable name is Max. He is 14.2 hands as of yesterday and is very easy to work with. He lets you work with his feet and loads into the trailer readily. Very much a lover, we are working on the concept of personal space.

She is a doll, quiet and pretty.

I tried to take a picture of Max, but he spent 20 minutes and 22 photos acting like he is deformed and demented!

My daughter is working on her race trainers license at Portland, and is of the opinion that he would be a much better jumper or general saddle horse than a racer. We aren't into him for a lot of money, so we have the luxury of starting him in race training and then deciding what to do with him.

Enjoying seems to be invaluable.
In my opinion he will be a turf horse and will like some rain around.
So I don,t think he is an american horse.
By the way the Saddlers Wells need plenty of time and won,t be brilliant
less than 12 furlongs.

The mare was unraced and all siblings were unraced. Per the American Produce Records. Seeing that she is from AUS, the records might be incomplete, but that *might* be a warning sign. But certainly it will not bode well in the sales ring. Female family is generally very important, especially with unproven sires.

Vintage Song's produce record (record of her offspring) through the end of 2003. (She may have had other foals, and/or this foal may have raced and made money since 2003.) Perhaps someone else can pull up more recent records if they have them. It would be interesting to know her story as she was clearly in Ireland and Australia. Appears to be a "lady of the world"

I would agree with Ben that the colt will likely like the turf. Portland may be perfect for him to test his abilities. He *may* have speed, but his breeding and dosage profile indicates he will want longer. So he will likely require patience and time to find his best stride.
