Downhill Sires

Postby Danzig » Fri Mar 09, 2007 7:35 am

If you were seeking to breed for a foal to run 6.5f off the downhill turf course in open company at Santa Anita, what would be the top five North American sires you'd consider breeding to?

Aljabr-- Doesnt improve mares but I think he can get a good turf runner if you breed to his strengths.

Honour and Glory-- Good, all-around stallion who's strength is versatility. Should turn out to be a very good broodmare sire.

Horse Chestnut-- Can get a real good turf runner. They can be real fast as well.

Sahm-- Very underrated stallion. Improves mares. Versatile as well. A very good breed to race stallion.

Tactical Cat-- Tactical Cat is a solid stallion. I think he's better than his numbers would say. I actually think he can get a big horse.

These are all very affordable stallions that can get you a fast horse on the turf. I listed them because there's probably deals to be had on each of them.

Unusual Heat is interesting but I think Chester House is dead. Lemon Drop Kid's are just starting to run at 6.5f but I do like Royal Academy. As solid as they come.

hi Danzig

Turf sprint? I get a sense that More Than Ready is a horse that could be right up that alley.

Oops on Chester House

I should have known .... wasn't thinking on Chester House but I have a Mr. P son, replacement. E Dubai! will be a very good turf sprint sire imo.

I like him too.

See Desert Code in Saturday's Baldwin at Santa Anita...

Anyone watch the Baldwin? Desert Code won in 1:11.96!

This horse caught my eye with a very impressive maiden victory on the cushion in which he pressed the pace and then came home like a closer.

He appears to have a very bright future on turf or the all-weather surfaces.

Very impressive indeed....I think he may have set a new stakes course record for the Baldwin which had been previously held by Buddy Gil at 1:12.56. That colt went on to win the Santa Anita Derby in 2003 and I believe he ran either fifth or sixth in the Kentucky Derby.
