Danehill son in Ohio

Postby springboro » Sun Apr 01, 2007 9:31 am

I'm the first one to admit my bias against unproven unraced stallions. However, I also have a fascination with pedigrees and what-ifs. This is probably based on the first stallion i ever owned, an unraced son of the champion Wajima out of the Broodmare of the Year Loudrangle. Never heard of him? Naw... no one did. But that's another story.

There is a Danehill son standing in Ohio... and he is unraced. Currently being bred to quarter horses. I have an aged Silver Hawk mare that has been empty for 3 years, and was in semi retirement. She really isn't of a commercial quality, as she is old and has produced nothing of merit.

BUT if i were a risk taker and IF I wanted to breed a nice turf horse, tell me what you think of this cross.

Kentucky Dane, by Danehill mated to Silver Narcissus, by Silver Hawk.

I already have two younger nicer mares being bred in KY. I really don't need a 3rd foal, esp. a turf horse in Indiana.

Did I mention my crazy interest in Ten Centuries too? A son of Dubai Millenium! God, someone stop me!

i feel the same way about older bloodlines. if everyone had the answers to breeding they would be out shopping for ocean front property.. racing is a risk, a gamble in every way from owning, feeding, caring, breeding, training.. i honnestly think is good mares were bred to unproven stallions and they are taken care of as if they were bred to storm cat! then i think its possible. great trainers wont take lesser bred horses, they do not offer them much. try it, and good luck
