The best crosses for Kris S were Danzig, Mr Prospector, and the mare My Turbulent Miss. The latter has a BC winner, a Gr-3 placed horse, a Japanese winner, and an extremely useful chaser in Ireland to the cover of Kris S, and her daughter My Turbulent Beau has a winner of over $450,000 by Kris S. Something good was going on there!
Since Philanthropist already has a cross to Mr P, I'd look for the following:
*Danzig--think Arch, etc. As a bonus Danzig crosses very well with Mr P;
*Exploit (Storm Cat ex My Turbulent Miss). He didn't pan out at stud, but he was bred to some very good mares in his first few years. It's worth trying, especially if the affinity for My Turbulent Miss carries through. Storm Cat will add speed;
*Dixieland Band;
*Out of Place (look at how many winners he has from Kris S mares).
Out in California the Flying Paster line had much better than average success with Prized, so Flying Paster and Flying Continental if you can find them. He also had a stakes horse out of a Gummo (sire of Flying Paster) mare.
Both Arch and Prized have winners of 75k or more carrying Alydar through Turkoman. Arch himself carries a strain of Alydar. This makes Benchmark mares intresting, since Philanthropist over Benchmark mare would be a cross similar to Arch.

Do you receive the same results when you use Tom Fool as you receive from his son Buckpasser? For example Grindstone has both Buckpasser and Tom Fool in his pedigree.

Honestly, I don't know. But I can name so many examples of Hail To Reason/Buckpasser success stories that I wouldn't have room on this thread to list them all.
Example: Southern Halo was an absolute dud in the US until a breeder in Kentucky sent a Woodman mare to him. The result? More Than Ready. It's a nick that works!

Mood Swings, I just read that Philanthropist has been nominated to the Ontario Sire Stakes on the CTHS website. Where exactly is he standing?

Thank you kindly for the replies. The mare I am looking at sending to him has Buckpasser blood through her sire, however she is free of both Nothern Dancer and Mr.P blood. One drawback might be size - she is 17+hh and he is 16.3hh, is this crazy?
