Hi Guys,

I was just doing some reading about Temperence Hill and WHY would you send a stallion to Thailand at the age of 26??? I know for the MONEY but it still just boggles my mind.

I didn't realize he was that old! When did he go?

I have no opinion on the move but I do have a Lemon Drop Kid from this family. Love to Temperence Hill and Vanlandingham get some big horses through their daughters.

I read he went over in 2003 and "died" there. I pray he didn't end up on a pair of chopsticks!

Loblolly had such a fantastic breeding and racing operation - it's terrible to read this. On top of those that Maven mentioned, Anthony homebreds also included Dalhart, Pine Bluff, and Prairie Bayou. The daughters of that family should be golden...isn't Fu Peg out of a Loblolly mare?

Anthony got back into the game under "Shortleaf Stable," but I don't see that name around any more. Did he leave the business for good?

I vaguely remember that. I don't think they "dispose" of them where he went although of course I can't be sure.

I read Anthony was still in the business but in a small way. Like a hobby I guess. Didn't he bring Pine Bluff back to his farm in Ark. after he was pensioned? Said he was going to just breed a few of his own mares to him.

I thought once a horse was pensioned he/she could no long be bred.

This is terrible news about T Hill I had no idea...LOVED his foals had several at a farm in Ohio where I used to work Yrs ago. gritty little suckers

No if he can breed he can be bred. Of course you have to own part of him to do that... :D Since most stallions are syndicated everyone has to agree (well unless it is obvious) but I think that the Loblolley stallions weren't syndicated? Or maybe they kept a big chunk of them. I would suspect that if some syndicate member was just dying to breed a mare to him they would accomodate them but usually once they are pensioned the interest has already waned.

Although I remember with Private Terms there were still enough people interested and disappointed they could have bred about the same number to him as they had the previous year so I'm not sure why they gave up on him so soon, I think he was still earning hi skeep and the guy didn't say his fertility or interest had gone south.

Really what pensioned means for a horse that still CAN get mares in foal is they aren't making enough money to make it worth using farm resources on him!

When some horses are pensioned and retired elsewhere (for free) they do have to agree not to breed any mares to them, like with Lure. Now had they bought Lure they could have kept on trying with him.
