Scarlet Ibis was pensioned at Highcliff Farm....any word on how he's doing?

Interestin' pedigree: fifth dam was Dustwhirl, dam of Whirlaway. The family (per research) later included Conquistador Cielo.

I have no clue on how he's doing but I wish we had a decent Cormorant line still available to breed to. I believe Go for Gin is it and he's in the mid-Atlantic.

Cormorant helped build the NY Bred breeding program - Scarlet Ibis was a staple in the NY Bred breeding program for a long time and a good one.

Isn't Albert the Great a Kentucky based son of Go For Gin and thus a non-Mid Atlantic representative of the Cormorant line? I know that Albert has been roundly panned as a sire, but he does have a contender this year in Nobiz Like Showbiz.

You're correct Geo... I just dont consider him a viable option at stud. He's been dead in the water except for Nobiz...

I'm hoping that people might look at Nobiz's pedigree and send Albert more suitable mares. Not only is Nobiz a good horse, but I understand he is thought of as being extremely beautiful conformation wise. I hate to write off a sire too quickly.

I was at Highcliff on Friday and saw Scarlet Ibis. He is doing great and is as mean as ever. Even in his stall he wears a wire muzzle and the stallion manager told us a few stories about how absolutely nasty he can be just going out to his paddock.

I got the impression he was pensioned more because of his attitude and the lack of interest than because of his age. But of course his age is a factor.

Thunder Puddles is also pensioned at Highcliff and he is still strikingly handsome. He looks much younger than his 28 years.

On the 2007 NY Broodmare sire list, he's #26. His chief earner so far this year is Raceland. (info from brisnet.com)
