Wagon Limit and Dumaani

ok... I've just got to ask... Does anyone have strong opinions on either of these stallions?

Dumaani, a graded stakes horse with wins over one million dollars... but has gotten no foals of significance. Have you seen this pedigree?

Wagon Limit, clearly improves his mares, but is only standing for $2500. A good race horse and a decent family.

So... any ideas why these guys are sooo cheap. (yeah, i realize their foals aren't selling well... that's why) but discuss anyway!

Terrible picture of my (NOW) TOTALLY correct DUMAANI filly pictured at 2 days old. She is a BIG Girl.

I will breed back to him next year. I LOVE this filly.

I know that bcassidy mentioned Wagon Limit positively in a thread where he was identifying some lesser known stallions that came up well in his private system for evaluating stallions.

Wagon Limit is indeed undervalued at $2500. Dumaani is similarly overpriced at that amount. The latter has scoured the U.S. in search of a home because wherever he lands, failure has followed. He stood in CA for a while and was a total dud. There comes a point in every stallion's career where his pedigree and race record almost become moot; it's how successful his foals are that matters.

Dumaani's top earner is my namesake's half brother, Blowin In The Wind. The horse is huge with a ton of bone. While it's nice to be the top earner, he has only won a couple of minor stakes at Hastings (maybe one in Alberta too???). As far as I know, he's still training, I believe he is 8. He's a bad bleeder, so he was sent to Alberta (that's what I was told).

In my system, no contest, Wagon Limit hands down over Dumaani. WL appears to be an excellent breed to race stallion. I know nothing about WL's conformation or the type of mares you should consider for him but I do believe you would have a substantially better chance of producing a good race horse from WL rather than Dumaani.
Karie, no harm intended on your filly and I do love the picture of her. Best of luck to her.
Geowarrier. very good memory. WL is not Smoke Glacken or Northern Afleet but he isn't priced like them either. Difficult to like someone else in WL's price range.

At $2,500 Wagon Limit is without question the best value in thoroughbred racing today. There are studs standing for 10 even 20 times as much that are nowhere near the stallion Wagon Limit is. His numbers are outstanding across the board.... and he can sire the "big horse" ( Silver Wagon) with soundeness and durability rarely found today. And they are not just limited to sprinting. If you breed to WL you have a very good chance of getting a horse that will run a distance of ground.

WL at $2,500 shows what a HUGE disconnect there is in the breeding end of the TB game where perception trumps reality / style over substance everytime... but for how much longer?

Perhaps Dumaani would do better in Europe. I must admit I am just no fan of Danzig or his sons at all.. and in his picture, Dumaani looks just like an Arabian pony I once had.

Regarding Wagon Limit, his fee was $5K in '05.. but he has pretty abysmal sales results. So he is truly just a breed to race sire. It is a fickle market. Even at $2500 he only got 15 mares in '06, down from 24 in '05 when his fee was twice as much. Of course, the fee in the book and the fee on the contracts can be very different.. perhaps they had really only averaged $2500 a mare and decided they might as well just publish him at that price.

an arab pony? hmmm a 16.1hh pony huh? You have got to be kidding. His handler is TALL.. at least 6'4..

He is a good looking horse and i've always loved and respected his female family. I do wish he would do more as a stallion. He's one of those I feel like I WANT to support, but have trouble finding enough reasons to justify sending a mare to.

That's the problem with scale. If he'd been next to a fire hydrant, THAT would give scale :lol:

Standing next to a dude that is 6'4" tall makes him look small.

Great pics of Dumaani,
I bred to him 3 yrs ago and mare aborted. I chose him because if I didn't get a runner I'd have a nice sporthorse, he's got substance and retired sound. He tolerated shipping around the world, my mare is hot+sensitive. She aborted and he went back to Ky, oh well. I visited him in his "pasture" in Ca several times but he never looked this cheerful. If I recall correctly your foal is marked similarly to Wudantunoit
