What does one suppose he'll stand for next year at his new home? In addition, what affect may such have upon War Chant's book and stud fee?

Isn't that pretty impressive? I like him.

Both are starting to produce winners, and many believe Danzig lines will be the future for polytrack surfaces. It's nice to have a choice among Danzig sons at one farm. Especially if they have a difference in fees for different budgets. I'm sure Exchange Rate will go to $30K at least, since that's pretty typical for Three Chimneys when transferring in the Florida boys. It remains to be seen what stud fees will look like next season in general. Hopefully they'll stabilize.

I agree with your assessment of Exchange Rate, henthorn. However, it may be a mistake to start him out that high; at least if they wish to attract a decent size book. The most prudent approach, in my opinion, would be to take the approach Hill n' Dale took with Stormy Atlantic - maintain a large book, while starting at a reasonable number and continue with increases each year as he continues to prove himself on a larger stage.

I thought this was almost a certainty after Exchange Rate's spring successes but I am sorry to see him go. At least I was lucky enough to see him at Padua this last spring and get pictures!

I agree he's an exciting young stallion. I own two Exchange Rate fillies, both of which are very forward in their training. Normally we wouldn't put them as task this early, but they look and act like 3 yo's. We'll start them in soft company and see what happens.

On a side note, he's the first stallion to do well from his family. The rest have been busts. I had my money against but it's nice to be proven wrong on occasion.

First I can think of since American Flag, anyway -- he was pretty useful as a sire.

Formidable wasn't a complete flop at stud and neither was Serheed. Joyeux Danseur was pretty poor and Arazi pretty much flopped except for Congaree.

I'd say 3chims has a little marketing dilema here one starts out at 10K and does fantastic with what he's been given while the other starts out at ...what was it 60K? and can't move his mares up or get a decent % of SWs. Only fools would pick WC.

Our Exchange Rate first time starter broke her maiden at Canterbury! Encanto Park was a last minute percentage purchase and has a beautiful family behind her. Quite pleased with her performance. We really weren't sure what to expect out of her and she will be at second and third tier tracks until she proves worthy of more, but again, cant ask for more than what she did today.

The mile 70 yard distance aside...what you might find interesting about this guy, is that he's a half-bro to Kentucky Derby 2nd...Closing Argument.

Unless he gets a few G1 winners soon, I, as a breeder, would not be able to justify more than 25k, and I own two of them. I think it would be a big mistake to start him off in Kentucky for more than that, at this moment.

I'd be amazed if they stood him for $20k, and surprised if they stood him for $25k (in 2008).

They're understandably waiting to see how the year unfolds (for Exchange Rate) prior to announcing his stud fee for 2008.

As for the info you supplied stating that Three Chimneys' states that Exchange Rate's fee will be a minnimum of 20 - 25K next season (your words)...I ask, why suggest higher (at this time anyway) and possibly open themselves up for criticism?

That said...I would not be surprised if they're actually thinking more like $30k (for 2008)...and hoping they might be able to rationalize (if not justify) $35-$40k, whenever the actual final decision has to be made.
