Lemon Drop Kid.. . wheres the love?

what's up with all the head for Lemon drop kid?

First of all.. you gotta love that name.

He's out of Kingmambo, the horse throws versitle horses, he seems to be better with fillies than colts, and he hasn't been at stud all of too long, and in the short time he's been at stud, he hasn't produced a Street Sense or anything, but he threw an oaks winner in Lemons forever another grade 1 winner in Citronade, and I don't know if cosmonaut has won a grade 1 yet.

I think the name refers to a Bob Hope movie where Bob plays a horse track gambler that always sucks on lemondrops. As for the horse I love the fact that he sires horses with stamina and most of his SWs seem to be graded quality. BUT he doesn't have nearly enough of them when factoring in the type of mares he got early. It's going to get alot tougher now for him.

I have two Lemon Drop Kids and I really like them both. One is stakes-placed in her first attempt at a stakes today. I look for him to be a very good broodmare sire and to impart stamina.

I also think too many of the Lemon Drop Kid's were wasted on the dirt and never put on the lawn. Many of them want/need it.

There's no reason to think that Lemon Drop Kid progeny wouldn't like the turf. He may well have liked it himself, but Scotty Schulhofer once said about trying him on the grass, "I have 20 million reasons not to."

He might become a more effective sire on the artificial surfaces, as well.

At the $20,000 level, I think he's very well priced. On a comparative level, if I'm looking for a Mr P line sire, I'd run to Lemon Drop Kid over Came Home at the $20,000/$25,000 level in a heartbeat. I think Mr Farish has a real problem with Came Home.

I had a bit of a look at him after your comments as I have never seen him race nor did I know how to place him as a stallion.

I have only found about three photos of hin on the net however he appears to be a very nice "lengthy" type. The female line is outstanding.

I would like to see this horse in Austalia for a couple of seasons. I think he will be an above average broodmare sire and I would certainly like one.

Plus I think he will be siring some very nice race horses during his career. He already seems to be working with a variety of stallion lines.

I guess Lane's End don't shuttle? Shame...... I think the horse would enjoy the holiday. :lol:

Thanks, C! I just got the call and the rundown. I haven't seen the race yet though. I never watch live... superstition thing. God help me if I ever get a horse in the Derby or a BC race. I'll need a medication drip. Off to equineline to see it now!

Wow! So I just watched the replay and im VERY proud of her! She had to check a few times and then it got a little crazy around the final turn and then she really accelerated. We were looking for more than a mile with her but when this race came up on our radar we thought she should be able to beat Canterbury fillies. Thankfully we were right!
