Crafty Prospector

Any thoughts on Crafty Prospector as a broodmare sire?

I happen to love him in this capacity and just purchased breeding rights to a French stakes-placed daughter of his running in Cali. Strong, European family behind her and the family sells very well.

Any idea what crosses well with him? I haven't run a broodmare sire report yet since she'll be on the track until the winter, but opinions welcomed on him in this capacity.

SOUNDNESS!!!! Breed them to anything!

Actually, how about Cozzene, or even Running Stag? Even if the foal doesn't have much ability, it'll run 100 times for you.

Maven, a good friend of mine loves CP as a broodmare sire. He bred a very nice filly named Coli Bear out of a CP mare named Crafty Marian. In CM's case (my friend) was in breeding to Bold Ruler which also works well with Mr P. This past breeding season he bred CM to Silver Deputy.
You can obviously look at these pedigrees and see what he is doing with his CP mare. Good Luck.
best regards Brendan

I really like Crafty Prospector as a broodmare sire. Nothing like adding a little durability to the mix. A few thoughts:

We have a stakes placed Summer Squall mare o/o a Crafty Prospector dam.
A friend of ours bred a stakes winner by Yonaguska o/o a CP mare.
I know there's been at least one stakes winner by More Than Ready o/o a CP mare.

Instinctively I thought Holy Bull which brings in Intentionally. But after further review, he's seen a few CP mares and only has one stakes winner to show and she was no world beater.

Indian Charlie I like a lot and he does have a G1 winner to a CP mare.

More Than Ready i've always loved and I will certainly send something his way next year. Maybe it will be this mare. Hopefully his fee doesn't change much.

Some current stallions with CP as their broodmare sire include Soto, Lucky Lionel, and Graeme Hall. He seems to thus cross well with Dehere/Deputy Minister lines, as well as Mt. Livermore.

I love More Than Ready. We have a super colt by him this year. Depending on what his stud fee does, we would definitely like to breed to him again next year.

I wanted to breed to Dehere this year but didn't have the right mare. I will certainly breed to him next year IF he's still standing. I've heard all spring he was having MAJOR problems getting mares in foal.
