How About Pioneering?

Postby tbrace » Thu Jul 26, 2007 12:48 pm

How is Pioneering as a sire? Anyone breed to him? I know he rather inexpensive, but his numbers are not that bad.

Any thoughts on him, or working with that farm?

I was all set to groan, but I will confess.... he moves his mares up. Who knew? Not a commercial sire at all, but he certainly has a few good runners.

He's 1/2 the poison Storm Cat is at 1/100th the price?

You have to wonder why a 1/2 to SC by Mr P stands for only $5,000. I guess for the same reason that a KY Derby winner/sire of a Classic winner son of Unbridled stands for $3,500. Overbrook management?

Rok,
Can you elaborate some? You think the mare's side is a problem for Pioneering?

If you follow THAT logic...then the poison would be Storm BIRD, as opposed to Mr Prospector the sire of Pioneering.

Oddly enough, I've never heard him refer to Storm Bird as poison or a rat. Nor have I heard him refer to Summer Squall, Thunder Gulch, or or Birdstone as poison.

Even more interesting, he's never referred to Kipling as poison. Kipling's dam is genetically a 3/4 sibling to Storm Cat (Storm Bird out of a Secretariat mare).
