Songster as a stallion prospect?

Postby TomFool » Wed Aug 08, 2007 6:53 pm

With his retirement to Darley what are you alls thoughts? What should his fee be? I am guessing 10k as everything is overpriced but I love French Deputy & he is going to be at the right farm. Thoughts?

.......and then we wonder why so many young horses don't stand training, or, worse yet, break down.

This begs for some Unbridled's Song comments, but I'll just bite my tongue and whistle a happy tune.

I think he'd be a better fit in Florida or possibly Louisiana or Oklahoma.

The best recent production from his female line (aside from him) has been with Valid Appeal. The mare base in Florida is heavy on Valid Appeal (and similar bloodlines). Louisiana has the Florida mares coming in, plus some sons of Valid Appeal and the daughters of Valid Expectations coming over the border from Texas. Oklahoma has those daughters of Valid Expectations. Neither OK nor FL have a quality Unbridled-line son--and compared to what they have, he IS quality.

I also think that given his racing aptitude (sprint speed) he'd do better in FL, LA, or OK than in KY.
