Just me or is KY a weird place for him to land?

His Grade 1 win was the 2nd slowest Wood Memorial in history.

Gotta remember the track was a bog that day.
He comes from one of my favorite female familes (21a).
I think I can say he isn't going to be the next Mr. P or Northern Northern Dancer in the breeding shed, but he does deserve a chance.

Also remember that Too Much Bling ran as fast as a horse can that day.
In that Wood Memorial, Jazil isn't a 1 1/8th mile horse and he lost the race by less than a length, and Keyed Entry had his tongue hanging out at the quarter pole and still lasted for third money. The Wood Memorial was simply a very weak edition in 2006.
Best.

I could never make the case that this particular edition of the Wood was a stellar one. I would assert that the 2nd slowest time doesn't translate into the 2nd weakest Wood ever ran.
All the Best to you, Shergar

I suppose the case can be made that Leroy S was nothing special before his Wood Memorial win or afterward, but when Too Much Bling could run 7 furlongs in 1:21 only a race before Bob & John ran 1 1/8th mile in 1:53 (or so), I have to think that the Wood was a walk in 2006, and that the track wasn't as much to blame as the horses that ran.
The 2006 KY Derby had one of the slowest mile splits in recent history - 1:37. After a mile, Jazil trailed by 8 lengths, Bob & John trailed by 14 lengths, and Keyed Entry pooped out and trailed by 17 lengths....so how fast did they run for even a mile? They're slow horses - and that's all there is to it.
Best Regards to you, as well. Roke

I believe Bob and John's time for the Wood was 1:51 and change.
Too Much Bling ran the Bay Shore in 1:22+
I don't think a 7f sprint should be compared to a 9f route, As a sloppy track generally favours sprinting speed types.
Point taken and conceded that on the 1st Saturday in May, the top 3 finishers in the Wood were nowhere to be found.
But back to the o/p. Bob and John is going to stud. I like his chances. He is well bred, from a good family.
What do you think he stud fee will be? I am terrible at guessing, but think in the 10k range.
Regards, Shergar

Hi Shergar,
You might be right about the final times - it's late and I remember that Bob & John's Wood Memorial could have been timed with an hourglass. LOL! Let's agree to touches all around.
I'm terrible at guessing initial stud fees. If you put a gun to my head, I'd also guess $10,000 - Bob & John is Grade 1 and he does descend from the Guggenheim broodmare band. He certainly has a license to be a sire.
On a comparative level, Seeking the Gold sons at stud are generally low-mid priced. Petionville stands for $15,000, Mutakdimm stands for $12,500, Cape Town stands for $10,000, and several stand in regional markets for much less than that. I can't picture Bob And John having a higher initial fee than an actively standing Seeking The Gold. But, who knows?
Best Regards, Rok

Well it seems to me that better long term prospects - Vicar, Wild Rush, Charismatic, Super Frolic come to mind, have been booted from KY before the final word was really in on them, so yes I would have thought that Bob and John wasn't a likely candidate to start in Kentucky. However there are low price stallions in Kentucky that have managed to survive there - he could become a Bright Launch or Wagon Limit, you never know.
Actually, I like that they sent him to Kentucky. He's be an underrated sire of sires in Seeking the Gold, who, as it has been mentioned, has some solid sons at stud, and is from a female line that is a known stallion producer.
This female family has produced Capote and Broad Brush in recent years. Let's give that some weight.
The one thing that would worry me though, is the name. I'm not sure the racing God's are going to anoint their next big sire with a name like that.

Don't be so humble - you are not that great.
