Does anyone have any idea why Castleton Lyons have removed Anabaa from their web site stallion roster and advertising? Has something happened to him or have they just shipped him out?

He stood for $40,000 last year (too much), but I have a mare that fits him well and was interested in breeding her to him if they dropped the price this year.

Thought it was announced a few weeks ago that he was returning to France.

Oh. OK. I didn't see it. But then, I've spent a couple of weeks in Fiji and Australia during that time, so must have missed it.

I'm curious to see how many mares he covered. I'm patiently waiting for the JC to release their annual report of mares bred.

I am VERY curious as to what mare you might have that would "fit" Anabaa. I am unfamiliar with his female side -- what goes "with" that?

My mare is Crousille by Highest Honor. She was stakes placed and ran against top class company in France (several G-1 winners such as Turtle Bow, Bright Sky, Marrotta), but, true to form, had a career ending injury in her second race for me at Santa Anita, the Harold S. Ramser stakes.

She had a really impressive turn of foot -- I have a video of one of her races in France where she was last of 20 turning into the straight but came flying late to be beaten a half length.

Anabaa has done quite well with the Kenmare line. His best is probably Virage de Fortune in Australia.

I forgot to add that most of Anabaa's G-1 winners have either returned Sir Gaylord or Riverman to him and Crousille has both of those stallions in her 5-gen pedigree.

My guess is he will have 45 mares pregnant to him for 2008 crop. Just wasn't well received here. I have a mare in foal to him. At one level, Danzig stallions have produced a couple of nice Group I winners from Polar Falcon mares, and at another level: "Anabaa brings together the good Danzig/Sharpen Up cross. Furthermore Anabaa has sired in France the G1 winner Rouvres and G3 winner Marshall out of mares by Groom Dancer (sire of Pursuit Of Love in my mare). In fact Rouvres is out of a mare with a similar background to my mare. Both have a Groom Dancer/Nureyev cross with either Charlottesville or his half brother Sheshoon." Remarks in quotations from a friend. He is a good looking, proven stallion, well respected everywhere else in the world but the USA.

Well, I went to the Le Quesnay website (Alec Head family stud in France) and it looks like Anabaa is going directly from the SH breeding season back to France because they have lost a couple of established stallions over there. So much for the one season experiment in Kentucky.

Anabaa is by Balbonella, she herself won the Prix Robert Papin (GR1) She was unbeaten in four starts. Her dam wasn't much on the track, her granddam Bergamasque won twice in Paris (7 furl.)
Anabaa in the female line traces to Vaguely Noble and Riverman.
Amonita (dam by Spectacular Bid) won Prix Marcel Boussac (GR1), Anabaa Blue (dam by Riverman) won Prix du Jockey Club, French Derby, GR1), Headturner (dam by Zabeel) won Australian Derby (GR1), Precision (dam by Welsh Term) won Hong Kong Cup (GR1), Rouvres (dam by Groom Dancer) won Prix Jean Prat (GR1) and Virage de Fortune (dam by Kenmare) won Sires' Produce Stakes (GR1) and Yell (dam by Bluebird (USA)) won the Australia Stakes (GR1).
Also his younger halfbrother Key of Luck is a succesful stallion, sire of Alamshar and Miss Emma.

Anabba is the best cross of the 07 season for Riverman mares and I am proud to have one. Can't wait to see what it produces.
