what do you think of him as a stallion? I've kinda always dismissed him because he's not in kentucky.. but he's thrown a couple of upper tier horses.. including Super Frolic.

Question for Mahubah while we're at it. Did Pine Bluff get injured in the belmont stakes or later in training? It was not made clear in the book as it just said "..before injury sent him into retirement."

I'm kinda fond of pine bluff because he's named after the city pine bluff, which is a 25-30 minute drive from where i am now

He spent the majority of his career in Kentucky. He was a decent stallion that was capable of getting a good horse infrequently. I believe he was pentioned two or three years ago. He's also a full-brother to the dam of Fusaichi Pegasus.

I've been around several Pine Bluff's and while I hate to say this, the ones I've been around were border line retarded. I certainly haven't been around all of them, or any of his good ones, so maybe it's just the ones I've been around.

Rowdy Angel is the dam of Pine Bluff, Angel Fever (the dam of Fusaichi Pegasus) and Demons Begone, among others.

Therefore Angel Fever and Pine Bluff are full brother and sister. (Both by Danzing)

How, then, can Pine Bluff be the "full brother to the dam of Fu Peg's grand dam"?

BDW is in Arkansas...how closely or not closely family is related isn't a big concern there. LOL!

no for some reason when I clicked on pine bluff I clicked on his dam and it said grand dam to Fu Peg..w hich is right. for some reason, I was thinking that his dam (pine bluff) was his sister instead. again, I need to put the vodka down.

To borrow a term from a friend, “… he’s not the most correct horse”. Of course, you need to say it with an Irish accent.

Pine Bluff had some…err… issues. However, he sired critters that ran on anything and at any distance. Wasn’t Megan’s Bluff one of his daughters? He stood at Lane’s End for several years and saw his fee continually drop. I would have liked to have had one of his good daughters… but many had issues, either conformational or mental. If I remember correctly, seems most had knee issues, but I could be confused.

I was always very fond of him because in his racing days, I spent a few weekends at Oaklawn. After placing my biggest bet to that point in time on him in the Arkansas Derby, (and a significant exacta on him and a Lynn Whiting critter), I felt obligated to go to that edition of the Kentucky Derby. (If you remember that Lynn Whiting trained critter gave Pat Day his first Derby win.

Pine Bluff was the most attractive horse in the Arkansas Derby and one of the best looking in that edition of the Kentucky Derby. He definitely had an “it” factor. That “it was something that didn’t translate to Lane’s End, for when I saw him a few years later, I was a little disappointed. (Amazing how our memories work that way… the colors always brighter… the girl is always prettier… bdw’s vodka is always Grey Goose).
