Horse Chestnut (SAF)

Postby Slew83 » Fri Sep 28, 2007 12:49 pm

How’s he doing at stud, is he getting good mares?

What distances are his offspring running at, are they winning?

Is his stud fee a good price?

What bloodlines fit him?

Surprisingly high yearling average considering his stud fee, too.

I love him and think he's a bargain for anyone breeding to race...but the genius agents out there would never spend any cash on one for their clients at the sales. So he's a tough sell if you are taking one to Keeneland. Imagine how the sales world would change if agents got their cut based on on track performance and not just buying the flavor of the week for their clients...only in dreams.

I really like him but I'd say he's def. breed to race. :D

I'm actually kind of shocked that up to this year, very few breeders tried out the most obvious pedigree cross in his female family. Look on the dam line, and ...

West Wall (by Plugged Nickle)
Sport's Chestnut (by Sportsworld by Alleged)
Giant's Castle (by Ribofilio by Ribot)
Rawl Plug (by Plugged Nickle)

That's four GOOD stakes winners, including one Gr-1 winner, with Ribot on the sireline. Surprisingly, nobody seemed to pick this up.

On to his produce,

Duveen (2nd dam by Pleasant Colony)
Charming n Lovable (dam by St Jovite)
Chestnut Lady (3rd dam by His Majesty)
Mister White Socks (2nd dam by Con Brio by Ribot)
Acajou (2nd dam by Alleged)

It looks like folks just tried every possible variant of Mr Prospector they could find, with mixed results. The few who added relatively close Ribot have been quite successful by comparison.
