I was on one of the 5,000 people that sent a mare to Purge last year. I just LOVE everything about his chances and feel $20K is reasonable.
Now I'm hesitant to go back. Is the lack of runners from Sky Mesa a sign of things? Can Pulpit be a good, if not great, sire of sires? Should we allow Sky Mesa more time to prove himself? Lots of questions here.
I feel that Purge was, at least, twice the runner Sky Mesa was. His family is also more "open" to mares from the Northern Dancer lines. I feel Sky Mesa, being out of a Storm Cat mare, is provided less opportunities than Purge would be.
I'd like some opinions on this if you have any thoughts.
Sons Of Pulpit - Sky Mesa or Purge?

I like Sky Mesa a lot and I saw a lot of his foals that looked great. They also didn't look like "early" types... so I wouldn't be down on him yet.
Although his pedigree is quite "closed" which limits the right mares for him drastically.
I like Purge's chances, especially in the market he's in.

You know, other than some bad traits, I would say the Pulpit's are some of the most attractive horses you see, especially as two year olds and older. It's no surprise to me his sons are being well-received regardless of their accomplishments.
Oratory is an interesting play.

Very funny, Larry...very funny....
Pulpit is definitely a winner for Claiborne.
Maven - about the Mull Of Kintyre: Broad Brush, until Include, never sired a sire of note (the line is just about dead and buried), and Capote was a "useful" sire that threw big floppy ears, a pushed in nose, and horses that looked like they could say, "Hee Haw." He sired some "OK" sires like Matty G, but not much else. Those horses in the family are recommendations?
I see nothing wrong with having Easy Goer on the bottom - it never hindered Storm Flag Flying. If she's the end of that BC highway, it'll be because of her topside.
