Any thoughts on the drop of his stud fee to $17,500? With his great female family and Invasor's success and subsequent $35k fee I am surprised at the drop. I noticed that over 30% of his weanling crop (22 versus 72 live foals reported) are in November's Keeneland sale. There are 2 spins on such a high percentage but I would be in the camp that it is a negative indicator on the appearance of his foals. Has anybody seen any of his foals?

Even though he has sound breeding, the combination of his 13 starts in 3 years of racing, Candy Stripes' 6 starts, and his dam being unraced is a little disconcerting. With the exception of his foot injury prior to the Breeders' Cup, were there any known soundness issues?

If you liked him at 25K then you should love him at !7.5K. I like him a lot. I think it is a traditional straight adjustment for the bubble year crop. Nothing more, nothing less.

Two things come to mind on his sales numbers. 1) Stonewall has nice incentives for the highest selling weanlings from their stallions and 2) I believe, without any direct knowledge, that you may also be looking at some foal share babies where people are anxious to get a quick return and win the incentive prize as well. I do not expect to see these weanlings given away at the sale. My guess is a fair number will RNA and return next fall.

An after thought would be that most of his babies will appeal to South American and European buyers. With exchange rates as they are, they may sell better to foreign buyers now than next year.

I've heard his babies are very good overall, and that they have good minds.

Leroi was a great turf runner with non-American bloodlines, and we know how sires who made their name on turf are discounted -- perhaps his initial fee at $25k was a little high because of that. I assume that Stonewall was hoping mare owners would flock to him because of the superb female family.

I'm guessing that the polytracks may, eventually, make a difference for a sire like him.

Casper, it was just a bubble year adjustment that USE to be an across the board practice, but hasn't been implemented as much in the last few years.

For what it's worth, his foals have looked TERRIFIC! I don't have one in the sale, so I'm not promoting one, but they truly have satisfied everything and then some that was hoped of them by someone in the know with Leroi. Take that for what it's worth.

At 17.5, it opens him up to a whole new mare owner and I hope people take advantage of it.

Thanks for the input. I am undecided in sending one my mares to Leroidesanimaux or Seattle Fitz. I know they are 2 different price points and markets. I think my mare fits Seattle Fitz better but Leroidesanimaux is a much better sire prospect. Seattle Fitz's female family though not as good as Leroidesanimaux 's bottom is very solid.

I have a His Majesty mare from Seattle Fitz's family. It's a top class family that traces back to Frizette (responsible for Mr. Prospector and Seattle Slew among others). I happen to love Seattle Fitz and I think he's one of the best looking horses in the Bluegrass, but if you can afford Leroi, he would be my preference.

I agree on both counts. My mare is Thunder Reason by Thunder Gulch. As you said, Mr. Prospector, Seattle Slew, and Seattle Fitz all female tail to Myrtlewood. In addition my dam's 2nd broodmare sire is Bold Reason and Seattle Fitz's 2nd broodmare sire is his half brother Never Bend thus doubling up Lalun. Seattle Fitz also brings a lot of male Bold Ruler blood to go with my mare's Queen of the Stage. Both Leroidesanimaux and Seattle Fitz double up on Round Table and Hail to Reason which I really like.

Well, for what its worth, I know they've been actively courting Thunder Gulch mares for Leroi to pick up another line of High Line.

If you call Clark Shepherd there, you will get an extremely honest and highly informed opinion on the cross. I highly recommend talking to him.

I already did and he agreed that it was a good match basically echoing what you said.

There are 20-some Leroi weanlings in Keeneland November, so we will see them soon.

Leroi is gorgeous, but we breed to race, so we bred to Seattle Fitz last year, and now have a gorgeous, strong weanling colt. Seattle Fitz is quite the specimen, and we also chose him because of the Myrtlewood connection you spoke of--our mare's tail female family traces to her. That, and the price was right!

My Seattle Fitz weanling colt (out of Basic Instinct) sells as Hip No. 30 on Sunday, as part of the NY Breeders Sales Co. Fall Mixed Auction. He's in the select weanling portion of the sale, and is a huge, growthy specimen. Wish him well, or better yet, go there and start the inevitable bidding war. LOL!

Good luck on Sunday. If his full brother that Ken McPeek purchased is any indication, your weanling will keep on improving.
