I see they've knocked your fee down to $300,000 a pop. Don't worry old fella, I'm sure there are plenty of regional breeding programs that will take you in if things get worse.

I'm not sure the purpose of this thread, but he's going on 25 and deserves all the respect in the world for starting at an ordinary fee with ordinary mares and sustaining one of the highest stud fees of all time for quite a few years.

I say good on him!

Fletch is obviously a brilliant observer of this industry.

Storm Cat's $500,000 fee, my dear Maven, was sustained for so long because of sales busts like Jalil, Mr Sekiguchi, and that $6.5 Million colt out of Hum Along (what the heck was his name?) - with a Storm Cat, there was always a chance of a sales home run...nothing else gave reason for his fee to remain that high the last couple of years. The Sheikh has finally turned his back on Storm Cat and the party's over.

And...Every colt he threw with 4 legs is standing stud somewhere due, in part, to his fee and his babies prices.

In 20-30 years the breed could very well be seriously inbred to this "good" stallion. Can't be a very healthy thing.

As good a stallion as he's been, he is not even a fly on Northern Dancer's rump. That was a "great" stallion who was not only worthy of an exorbitant fee, but also his presence in most pedigrees we see today.

He's produced some pretty handy horses. I'd like a stable full of storm cats

Maven, in fact I do respect him for what he is, though his $500,000 fee was pretty outlandish. The bit about the regional programs was in jest... You can't honestly believe anyone would be serious about that. I noticed the stud fee announcement, didn't see any mention of it here, figured I'd post about the fee being lowered to $300,000. I also noted re. my P.S. that I feel A.P. Indy is the new cock-of-the-walk.

It's sometimes difficult to detect tongue-in-cheek rhetoric when it is written so I figured this post would clear that up.

Everyone on here seems to be wound pretty tightly these days....

When it comes to Storm Cat, people LOVE to bash the horse on this forum. In fact, one of our very own likes to call him a "disease".

I should have given you the benefit of the doubt. I apologize.

I wish I owned a stallion who slumped from 500k to 300k....

As with other not so great sire of sires, SC will probably be remembered as are many others to be a tremendous broodmare sire. With all the great mares bred to him how can he miss??

Well, you know how it is Maven.... it's fun to bash those in power or at the top of their game, industry, etc. whether they deserve it or not. There are entire television shows based on that principle (The Late Show, The Daily Show, etc.). I wouldn't really worry too much about it. I've just got into the thoroughbred "business" a little over a year ago and have been concentrating on studying pedigrees of those thoroughbreds that have won graded stakes races since 1997, figured a decade was a pretty good cut-off. Storm Cat appears in MANY, MANY of these pedigrees, mostly as a sire of a sire or a broodmare sire. His blood won't be going away anytime soon.

Rokeby, yes there are many Storm Cat sons at stud in regional markets, some do well while others don't. Same can be said of sons of Danzig, Deputy Minister, Seattle Slew, etc. Sure would be nice if genetics were a bit more cut and dry eh?

His fee dropping to $300K is very exciting news! He finally becomes a cost-effective option for those of us breeding to race!

Officer is a very good 2nd crop sire, but I sure can't invision him staying at 40K. Overbrook was smart to adjust, Jump Start's fee to a reasonable level imo.

NO!!! There are currently 134 Storm Cat sons at stud...and all you can write is, "Some do well?" SOME???

Danzig had his Danehill. Seattle Slew had his AP Indy. Deputy Minister has his Awesome Again. Storm Cat has his....Forestry?

Who in their right mind bashes Bill Mott? He had TWICE as many winners at Saratoga as the next trainer and he's one of the greatest trainers of our time. Give it a rest, Fletch.
