Interesting info. Some I thought would be busy were not, others I thought would be slow were busy.

Tribal Rule (Storm Cat) got 132 mares which is darn impressive for a 2nd crop sire standing in California. He got more mares than both Benchmark (101) and Bertrando (94). Looks like he's the hot horse in California. He is expected to have about the same numbers in 08 as well.

Ironically, Unusual Heat only got 47 mares, but he stands at 15K and Tribal Rule (for now) at 5K. Tribal Rule is also a leading 2nd Crop sire (ranked 14th, per BH thru 17 Oct 07) nationally.

Stormy Atlantic leads the list - FOS must be shakin' his pompoms like crazy!

Running Stag got 47 mares this year in Texas at 5k, while his sire got 47 in KY at way more than that. Still, 47 is a LOT better than his last year in FL.

How about Stolen Gold, #1 in Washington? Bred 2 mares in 2005, 6 mares in 2006, and 64 in 2007.

It's not like Overbrook is asking an arm and a leg for their stallions!

If I calculated correctly the four above stallions were the equal of 1.4 covers by Storm Cat. I'm not sure Overbrook even noticed or cared what they did.

That's quite an interesting comment, because those were my sentiments when I had a phone conversation with them, this year, thus I ended up breeding to a Darley Stallion. Since I was from California I just chalked it up to a standard operating procedure with small, out of state breeders. A little elitism, if you will. So I took my dollars elsewhere!

Overbrook's mismanagement boggles the mind. How could Pioneering, a 1/2 brother to Storm Cat by Mr P, never ride on any coattails and stand for more than $7,500 ($5,000 in 2008)? I seem to remember that Pioneering covered well over 100 mares in 2006, and that number dropped significantly in 2007.

What does Overbrook plan to do when Storm Cat kicks the bucket? They have two sons of his (Cat Thief and Tactical Cat) standing for peanuts. Jump Start stands for half of what he once did. Grindstone, an Unbridled KY Derby winner and sire of a Classic winner, stands for $3,500. Is there any plan for the future?

I certainly had absolutely no problem with them. They bent over backwards and helped me get the impossible done. Contracts, etc. all faxed and done inside half an hour and an evening appointment that same night for an ovulating mare who needed to be covered. THAT's Customer Service.

Madelyn, it's always a case where someone feels good about one farm and another person may not feel that way with their contacts with that same farm. It's generally not unaninous otherwise they would not longer be in business. Their dealings with you, a might be different than to a small time out of state breeder, or maybe the they didn't get enough sleep, I can't say for sure.

Could be. We each have our own stories, memories, etc. I believe it goes back to the fact that most stud farms do not consider mare owners to be "clients." More like a necessary evil.
