Both in Keeneland sale in Nov. What's up? Thought Kissin Kris was a good fit in Calif.

Is T'berg still scheduled for the sale? I'd imagine he'd be an out.

As far as Kissin Kris, this horse never really got respect. He's a pretty solid stallion in his own right, though. If I remember right, KK wasn't in Cali long enough to get those crops on the track. There must not have been a ton of support... which makes sense in a speed hungry market there with him being a more two turn stallion.

Wild Deputy I always found interesting. I actually think he'd be an interesting fit in Florida. It seems a lot of the Valid Appeal/In Reality lines that are down there seem to like Nearctic and Icecapade.

Kissin Kris

Kissin Kris only got 8 mares this year. I don't know why Califorinia has not taken to him, but he would have had a better chance if they had started him out with an introductory fee. I never went and looked at him in person, but he looks pretty impressive in the stallion directory photo.

He's actually right in the hunt in regard to fees as he stands on the Ca. sires list, but a lower fee may have generated some interest imo.

I see they replaced him with "Hold for Gold", so Tommy Town wants to keep something in the Roberto Line, meanwhile Comic Strip may be leaving (not confirmed).

What I don't get is that California stallion managers pick up a horse like "Hold For Gold" who stood at Crestwood for $3,500 and got 11 mares, and then you bring him here and want to stand him for $5,000 with the thought breeders jumping in line to breed to him. I like "Hold For Gold" but that sounds like another Kissin Kris move.

The same thing was done with several imports to Ca., including Deputy Commander, Kelly Kip, and most recently Terrell ($2,500 Canadian 4K Ca.). When you can get to better performers like Tribal Rule, Formal Gold, etc. for 5K what would make them think they could introduce these stallions at inflated prices. This is Calfornia though.

There are already too many stallions in Louisiana, and more than half of them can't pay their way. :?

Who is it here who is/was the diehard Kissin Kris fan?

She wasn't banished. She's just chosen not to come back, which is unfortunate in my opinion. Let's not get off topic but I just wanted to point out she has not been banished from the site.

Hi Guys,

Sam was a stauch lover of Kissin Kris.
Does anyone want to stick their neck out and guess
how much they think Kissin Kris will bring at the sale?

Sale Price

Postby hpkingjr » Sat Oct 20, 2007 10:43 am

17 year old stallion with 50 total foals or less the last two years. Didn't sell at 5K. Estimate 5 years left in the shed. Estimate stud fee of 2 to 3K.
Cost to keep him at 25K per year plus ads. You can't afford to buy him.

He RNA's and then gets sold for 35 to 50 privately.

I will just say from a reliable source that Kissin Kris' problems are behavioral -- and that is why he is in the sale.

That won't stop someone from Louisiana from buying him. If he goes cheap and being a John Franks owned horse, he's half way there.

Did the reliable source indicate what kind of behavior?
