Storm Creek

Postby fastappy » Tue Oct 23, 2007 1:56 pm

Storm Creek is a fairly good grass sire and is a pretty good two year sire as well. He has been slowly falling out of favor with California breeders since coming here from Kentucky and originally standing for 10K.

Currently ranked 24th of Ca. Sires List (BH 22 Oct 07) with 120 starters only 41 winners (33%) while most stallions in his fee range are 50% or better with winners. His AEI of 1.06 vs CI of 1.60 isn't helping. Total get earnings this year (thru 22 Oct 07) are $1,161,579 which averages to $9,679 per runner.

He's a useful stallion and fills a niche, but new stallions are coming on line all the time and Storm Creek has not come up with any major horse of recent. He does have 3 year old "No More Sweets (Secreto mare) recently winning allowance going 1 1/8 on the Turf at Hawthorne, 4 yo allowance winner Karakorum Thunder (Salt Lake Dam), and has some older stakes (Stakes Winners 4%) horses running. With over 400 foals of racing age, his highest earner has not exceeded $500K in earnings.

He did sire the very nice G1 winner Stormy Pick, who won the Spinaway G1 & Sorority G3 at age 2. Coincidentally if you have a Peterhof mare you may want to rush her a good son of Storm Cat as both Georgie Boy and Stormy Pick are Storm Cats crossed on Peterhof mares.

Mathematically deficient, yes I know, but I would be willing to try.

Fastappy all your additions are good choices and noted.

Brandon's Starlite had a highly inbred filly who won a bunch of low level claiming races at SA and Hollypark this winter/spring. I can't remember her name but she was closely inbred. I think her dam was a full to Brandon or close to it..

Santella George

Postby fastappy » Tue Oct 23, 2007 7:35 pm

All I can think of, is a modern day Frederico Tesio must have bred the foal. I mean to come up with a winner from a sire (Brandon's Starlite) who raced 30 times over 4 years to earn 27K and his sire (Santella George) who raced 42 times over 5 years to earn 22k, you really have to know your stuff. Amazing! Kids don't try this at home!

Thanks Karie, The filly I mentioned with the close inbreeding is Brandi's Starlite. She is by Brandon out of a Santella George mare thus 2x2 to Santella George. She had a great deal of speed at her level.

Here's a link to her pedigree:
