Airdrie has posted fees for 2008. Am I crazy to think they are way overpriced?

Indian Charlie $50K
Include $30K
Proud Citizen $25K
Harlan's Holiday $25K
Friend's Lake $15K


I like Harlan's Holiday but I'm not so sure at $25K.

Indian Charlie at $50k is worth a look...this horse has one champion and one likely champion (Indian Blessing) in 2 years. Not bad.

Include has been turning out some nice horses who are (as advertised) getting better with age, but if you look at his sales results you'll notice they all kind of "stick" around $60,000. At $12,500 that was a very nice profit. At $30,000 that is rapidly getting difficult to break even. His racetrack results so far--and he's only on his second crop, so this may change--are in line with a $15,000 stallion. Reminds me a lot of Siphon.

Re: Harlan's Holiday, for me when the first crop runs as 3yos is as big, if not a bigger, bubble year than when the first babies run. If a horse's get don't come screaming out of the gate, they're usually given a pass--a wary one, but still a pass--in case their kids are later maturing. Harlan's Holiday has some interesting results so far but not the kind that makes me think, "Wow, they're going to rock the Casbah at 3!" and a 25% fee jump.

Proud Citizen at $25k is Include round 2. Include started at $12.5, got a couple of stakes winners, and doubled in price.

I ALWAYS find Airdrie's fees too high.

I may see what I can get Indian Charlie for with a real nice mare. Fingers crossed it's less than that because I can go for better alternatives at that price.

Proud Citizen was another I was thinking of using and probably still will... but 25k is inflated as well, in my opinion.

Stallion of the future - especially when nicked to Langfuhr.

Include's stud fee has been announced at $35,000 not $30,000.

I think Airdrie is off my list at this time. Too much money for too little horse, IMO. Plus, you don't seem to get your choice of stallion and they seem to exclusively use those bunk Werk nicks.

No, I'd call you rational.... and even your suggested prices are high far as I'm concerned.

What do people like about Friend's Lake? He was a one hit wonder in an awfully run race - and was a washup after it. His damside is full of runners, but nothing to suggest that he'll be any kind of sire of note.

I hope people don't expect AP Indy to be the sire of sires that Storm Cat never was/will be.

The Friend's Lake's sold exceptionally well. Still don't like him as a stallion, but they did look the part.

Street Sense was a fine racehorse (and a worthy 2-yo champion in 2006)...but not $75k stud-fee fine (to my way of thinking). Regardless...if breeders are willing to pay the toll...good luck to them.

Continuing the thought...it seems to me that Street Cry (sire of Street Sense), bumped from $50k to $100k for 2008...is a bit of a stretch too.

Arguably, Darley has gone over-the-top (if you will) with some of their stud fees for 2008. Elusive Quality, though, had his stud fee reduced to $75k; and (at the very least) has gotta be worthy a close look (for those who have a mare that might be an excellent fit with him).

I don't know that Corinthian (by Pulpit) might not be worthy (and/or attractive) at an opening stud fee on the north side of $20k...maybe $25k, possibly even $30k; but, at $40k (for openers) he is (from my perspective) over the top...and a No-Go, as far as I'm concerned.

Has Henny Hughes' fee been announced for 2008? All things being equal, deciding between Henny Hughes and Corinthian is an absolute no brainer!

I'll be surprised if FL amounts to much as a sire looks or otherwise. And AP Indy as a sire of sires is a definite work in progress with the outlook hazy at best.

To my way of thinking, they're both over the top.

That said...I sense that there is a potential value-added (if you will) that Team Darley brings to the table, arguably to a MUCH larger degree than Gainesway does (or arguably could). Continuing that thought...who might you expect would (or even could) be more active, when it comes to buying offspring of their young and yet unproven sires (at the sales)...Darley or Gainesway?

That's the potential value-added that I'm talking about. It doesn't guarantee that Darley would be a potential buyer, nor does it justify over-the-top stud fees, but it's certainly a matter worthy consideration...don't you think? Especially for market breeders.

I'm not so confident that Gainesway offers that same potential value-added.

You're right, but Corinthian does offer something that Henny Hughes doesn't - the possibility of both Coolmore and the Sheikh(s) having an interest in a yearling. Any possibility that Coolmore would look at a Henny Hughes foal because of Hennessy is now gone.
