Pedigree Query

We talk about who we like as stallions, the new and old ones alot, but if you are a breeder, and many of you are, who do you like as a strickly commercial play?


I'll say that I don't think you can go wrong, if you can afford it, to Corinthian if you have a good match.

First of all, Corinthian is a horse model. He's big, he's lean, he's leggy. He has a great stallion pedigree...

but moreso, if you are breeding to him, you arem ore than likley going to get a physically appealing offspring that could probably fetch around 80-90k at least I would think.

I love Corinthian also. He'd be my co-top pick. Met Mile & BC Dirt Mile winner is definitely worthy of serious consideration.

Believe it or not, I think Discreet Cat (yes, son of Forestry) is a tremendous value commercially. If Godolphin had not brought him back as a 4 yo, he would have been standing this past season for much more than the $30K he is now.

My problems with Forestry are overly documented, but remember D Cat ran a minus-2 Rag in his second start. He was brilliantly fast and I believe the commercial market will be anticipating similar from his foals.

I might be reaching but I honestly think Corinthian is the best stallion prospect to come along since Fu Peg. Maven has shown me the light! the only downside is like fu peg, he can be a nutt case, although I don't think as bad.

BUT.....

this is about the commercial aspects not the productivy aspects, and I think he just has alot of hte physical traits you like.

Discreet Cat has that storm caty look so I can see that working as well.

And Corinthian has the Easy Goer look, but sadly EG was taken from us at such an early age he could not really prove his greatness. So, now we have Corinthian to carry on that legacy. And I say he will.

However, Corinthian is actually old Claiborne blood on the female side. Bluegrass Cat is Phipps on the bottom, and if he has ANY chance of success, that's the reason why.

I agree Corinthian is a no brainer. I also really think Any Given Saturaday will be a very smart commerical play. Discreet Cat, even as down as Forestry may be now I cant help but think is worth a shot if you get a nice foal by him I cant help but think it would sell very well. US is a bit down as well but I can also see Half Ours & maybe even to a bit lesser degree Songster at a discounted price.
