Purim retired to richland hills

Purim, who scored his big win in the Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes (gr. IT) in October at Keeneland, has been retired from racing for stallion duty at Nathan Fox's Richland Hills near Midway, Ky. His stud fee is $10,000.

A son of Dynaformer, Purim did some of his best running at Keeneland. He not only registered a 105 Beyer Speed Figure in the Shadwell Turf Mile, but also a 104 Beyer in the Maker's Mark Mile Stakes (gr. IIT) while beaten less than a length while third.

Purim was also a graded stakes winner on dirt. He captured the Razorback Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. III) at Oaklawn Park.

A stakes winner all three years he raced, Purim won four other added-money races, including the Arlington Classic Stakes (gr. IIIT). Trained by Tom Proctor, he retired with nine wins from 23 starts and earnings of $928,543 for breeder/owner E.J. Sukley. In his last start, he ran unplaced in the Nov. 23 Clark Handicap (gr. II) at Churchill Downs.

Five-year-old Purim is out of the stakes-placed Lord At War mare Kirsteena, who is a half-sister to stakes winner/stakes producer Miss Prospector. His third dam is a half-sister to Hall of Famers Dr. Fager and Ta Wee.

no complaints here about a 5 year old going to stud. damn near million dollar earner, he carries the dynaformer legacy on.

do dynaformers kids have his attitude?

He descends from Aspidistra - why isn't he standing in Florida? Lots of speedy mares that carry Dr Fager somewhere in their pedigrees are still down there.

He has a great pedigree, going back to Aspidistra without going through her traditional soursec of Magic, Dr. Fager, or Ta Wee. Plus I think being by Dynaformer is a plus, to me Purim is his first real good prospect as a sire. His best horses have seemed to be geldings and fillies.

Purim is like a lot of Dynaformers, comfortable on dirt and turf. Probably a touch better on the grass, but still won a graded stake on the dirt. He was never exactly right as a racehorse, but had a world of talent, and when he felt good, he rarely got beat. He had 9 wins, with only 4 other in the money finishes. His 3rd in the Makers Mark was an amazing race, just behind Kip Deville and Showing Up, and his second in the American Derby was like his 4th start, and he had never been challenged up to that point. There were some breething issues all along, and they were cleared up with a minor surgery this summer, and he won his grade 1 in the Shadwell Mile after it. I think he would have performed better in the BC Mile if not for the wet turf. He's a massive horse, and basically light horses won all the grass races in the BC this year. Not saying he was good enough to win it, but he difinitely was doing well.

I think he's at the right place, it's the same people that started Dynaformer, and they'll do a good job of getting him mares, I think. He isn't going to sire early juveniles, which will probably keep his yearling prices down, as the pinhookers won't be on him. That's probably part of the reason he's not in Florida. He's a total outcross to Mr. Prospector, Northern Dancer, and Seattle Slew line mares, but there are obviously plenty of things in his pedigree to work with, especially the female family inbreeding to Aspidistra which is so apparent. I'm really hoping that he makes it as a sire, and I think he will. We're breeding one mare to him this year, named Poise.

i want to send him my newest mare, Pharaway Wedding. She's by Miesque's Son, and her 1/2 sister by Dynaformer has a stakes winning 2 year old (running today in the What a Pleasure Stakes at Calder).

Go Dynhocracy!!

you know who he reminds me alot of as a sire? Dynaformer. sires who had sneaky good race records but didn't get the headlines when they went to stud with solid pedigrees.

Dynaformer started off as free to approved mares - this breeder had no idea what he had! LOL!

I think that the early Dynaformers were much like the early Distorted Humors - foals weren't bred with the thought of them being possible stallion prospects, so they were gelded. Who knows if either would be a "sire of sires" right now - neither was given an opportunity early on. Would Perfect Drift or Blazing Fury have been decent stallions - who knows? And of the early ones that weren't gelded, did anyone want any part of Blumin Affair? Come to think of it - what is Saudi Arabia doing with Dynever these days?

Blumin Affair couldn't help that he wound up on a pig farm in Nebraska. He has actually done quite well with the opportunities he has been provided.

Pedigree-wise he has an awful lot going for him, he is superbly well-bred, and is very reasonably priced for what he has to offer.
