Oops, almost left off my very favorite, English Channel, going to stud this year. I think 25K for him is very reasonable.

25k for a small turf horse? I dont see any value in that. You should have been one of the handful that bred to Hap. You could have got to him for just a tad over if not free.

At the risk of sounding self serving---please check out Honor Defend. He hails from a female family that has over 10 stallions currently or recently standing---including Rahy, Singspiel, Saint Ballado, Parade Ground and about 5-6 other very useful stallions.
His half brother made just under 6 Million and is a leading 3 rd crop sire in japan, his sister made 1.4 million and his other brother (bought by the Maktoums) was Group placed in Europe last year and they expect big things from him this year as a 4 yr old. He also has a 2 yr old by Aldebaran and a yearling by Gone West.
Hard not to like this guy!!!!!! in my opinion. Would love to hear what others think?
best regards Brendan

Yep, I'm little crazy, but I still like EC, won over 5M, raced thru 5, has stamina and turf breeding. And your right, he is small, but bigger isn't always better.

After Georgie Boy's authoritative win in the San Vicente at SA this past weekend, Tribal Rule will begin getting his due as an up-and-coming sire. Granted, he was not altogether sound during his racing career, but that Graustark on the bottom is nice to see and give his runners the ability to stretch out.

Tribal Rule is also a half to Key Phrase, dam of Yankee Gentleman, who sired one of my Derby hopefuls, Yankee Bravo.

I really enjoy your posts keith.

Strategic MIssion.. doesn't he have a AEI of like 5 something? I would say that's pretty proven if you ask me.

2. wouldn't scipon be a 3/4th's brother to vindication since Vindication is by AP Indy's sire? He seems like a nice play if you don't want to pay the vindication money but like vindication's pedigree

3. In my perosnal list of best 1st year sires this year Jazil is in my top 4 with Corinthian, Sun King and Discreet Cat

4. I really like kitten's joy. a very telling sign of a good potential sire or broodmare is when the sires/broodmares sbiliblings show the abitly to sire or dam great horses, as which is the case with dreaming of anna.

5. you forgot that AFter market is a full brother to Jalil! how can you forget that  i'm not a fan. i'm a fan ifyou are looking at giant's causeway, BECAUSE i htink he would be a smarter play and I think he can be just as good a sire as giant's causeway for less money

6. Bluegrass CAt is storm cat's heir apparant. book it.

english channel is a toss up to me

his pros:

bred to be versatile. bottom line is all turf. smart strike gets turf and dirt. so you get versitilty. He's not huge but neither was northern dancer or rahy. I didn't realize just how tiny rahy is until I saw his video. he looks like a miniature pony! durable. should be a good bred to race sire.

cons

smart strike doesn't have any great sires out there yet and hap isn't the reincarnation of sadlers wells or anything.

in conclusion, 25k to me is too much to pay for a line with both sides not really showing the ability to sire great sires. I would personally wait utnil his full brother, sedgefield hits the shed and get him at 1/5th the price.
