role reversal?

Postby bdw0617 » Thu Feb 14, 2008 5:32 am

has there ever been a situtation where a great horse has had a full sibling who was not the same race horse but was a better sire?

It's happened several times. Saint Ballado and Devil's Bag, for one.

Didn't know it was a race, but it is nice to win one once in awhile....

Seriously, the difference in Vice Regent and his champion brother should be the first to come to mind, especially when you consider Vice Regent's early years and the class of mares he was getting. One of my all time favorite stallions and broodmare sires.

DDT,

My brother and I have a mare whose 2nd dam Kate Coventry is by Viceregal. I always wanted to send her to Marquetry to get the brothers in there together as broodmare sires on the male and female side.
She hadn't produced anything by the time we got her (thanks to her previous mates) so we couldn't justify ever sending down to KY. She'd due to foal an Impeachment in a couple weeks, so at least we will have both brothers in there one way or another.

Good luck with the Impeachment foal. Kate was a very good producer, and old Hal Clagett bred some really good horses with this female family down in Maryland.
