It's for El Vaquero, a son of Louis Quatorze and out of an UR Thunder Gulch mare. A multiple winner of apx $25k. Apparently, a nice enough horse and - based on his surrounding in the photo, he's clearly easy to deal with.

But, is this a joke? I know the PA program is getting good money now, but would anyone seriously breed to a stallion presented like this?? I mean, they didn't even bother to clip his bridlepath or brush the mud off his legs!

And, to top it all off, he is owned by a rescue. Isn't it against the Code of Rescues or something to run a rescue and stand stallions? I'm not of the belief that just b/c a horse winds up in a resuce it means that it is not breeding quality, but isn't it odd to stand mulitple cheap stallions AND be a rescue?

Anyway, sorry to snark, but this just caught my eye and felt compelled to share.

I saw this ad, and have gone to their website.. These people cannot be serious. If you want a even better laugh, go to their "training" or services page.. for a whoping $20 for a hour, you can take riding lessons with them,, or by the looks of the horse wheeling in the roundpen have them train your horse..

But yes I also though it strange this "not for profit" rescue is offering 2 studs up for breeding, IMO neither of which should be a stud..

AND for a adoption fee of $1,500 you can adopt Charlie!! $1,500 bucks sounds like it should come with a Bill of Sale, not adoption contract!!

You would think a rescue would want to geld him and find him a home as a riding horse, if he is as mellow/nice as they say. Why produce MORE horses by standing 2 stallions?

This peaked my curiosity as well as it does seem to be an oxymoron. When I went to their site apparently they run a dual business; one side being breeding, lessons, sales etc. and on the other side they run a rescue. All the rescues I know of, make you sign a document stating you will not breed, so I agree, it is odd.

It does appear odd. Makes one wonder whether it is a legitmiate IRC 501.3C (Not-for-Rofit) or if someone is just trying to harbor their actual revenues in a shell non-profit. What would be very interesting to know is what amont in compensation is paid to the officers on an annual basis, as well as what allowable expenses said officers expend annually.

a rescue AND breeding ? sounds like a conflict of interest to me. One has to wonder when they donate to this place how is the money being spent..toward truly needy horses or a new halter and name plate for the breeding stallion.
