Pedigree Query

We just had to re-book a mare to Artie Schiller (and another to English Channel). Does anyone out there have or has seen any of his babies? If so how are they looking?

Madelyn, Not too worried about English Channel, the mare going to him is big and has great bone and ran 35 times. So I'm not too concerned about breeding her to a little bit of a smaller guy.

Thanks Bill, I really like Artie too as a race horse and on pedigree. But didn't really think of him for this mare until now and hadn't heard much about his foals. I was confident enough booking without hearing any hype about his babies (we didn't have much time to think about it), but this makes is feel better. The match should be interesting. A Caerleon mare to him who is a 1/2 to a G3 winner by Sadler's Wells, so the cross should go nicely with her dam side.

Ascot--I've got two AS foals, a colt and a filly, and they are both exceptional looking foals. They are both tall, and extremely correct with a nice shoulder and hip. They both have similar easy temperaments. It would be difficult to find fault with either of them right now but they're still quite young. My vet also has an AS colt--and he is quite high on him--he sees so many foals each year it's unusual for him to brag about any of them. I would say that AS is stamping his foals pretty well--the ones i've seen all have a similar look, and I've heard very similar comments from Hurricane Hall.

Didn't particularly care for his lack of speed early in his career, but those first few starts seem to be the exception. Later on, he demonstrated sufficient early speed. I like him a lot as well and have heard nothing but good things about his foals.

thanks evryone, the mare is in foal (the mare to English Channel was but it regressed ), so there's no looking back now. I'm just glad we got an early enough start with her that after the 3rd time she was filled with blanks it was early enough to get her over to someone else and still have an early April foal. Hopefully the other mare will co-operate now.

I'm going to necro this thread and ask for any updates... I am going to go see him the next time I am in Lexington. If I decide to breed back my mare he is one of three I'm interested in.

I would be taking a "wait and see" attitude at this point with Artie.
I really want to see this guy succeed. He has had 3 runners have made it to the track- no one has seen the winner's circle yet.
I have a 2 year old AS filly who has been slow to come around. If you see an AS filly running in the Small Wonder Stakes at Delaware Park August 22 - that is her.
If you don't - I'll be at the bar talking to my bottle of beer.

Thanks for the feedback. One thing i know is my mare and a lot in her family are slow to mature, mostly because they are long legged and big. They told me he is not shuttling this year so I can see him in the fall. I read somewhere that he had a big book again this year so either people loved his foals or they are going after the El Prado x Forty Niner cross.

I did not expect he would sire precocious 5 furlong runners so by the time your August time frame comes around that's when I would be looking for something. If they do take off it will be hard for me to get to him because he will be out of my price range!
