Pedigree Query

Does anyone have any history on this horse? Did he stand in KY at any point in his career? If so, what year was he "banished?" Where did he go? I cannot find any history on him. TIA for any info!

He stood in Kentucky, New Jersey, and possibly Pa. before being sent to Illinois. If memory serves correctly, he died shortly after being moved to Illinois.

He stood at Pin Oak Stud in Versailles. He was pretty much a dud.

Caller I.D. entered stud at Pin Oak KY in 1993; was sent to NJ for 2002; I have him at Reigle Heir in PA in 2003; then to Three Way in IL.

Ok may be a stupid question but really, what does someone do to a horse, rather 2 horses to lose them to a stomach rupture??? :shock:

Caller I. D. did not start out in Kentucky.He entered stud at Pug Hart's farm in Florida.Pug sold him a few years later along with Prospector's Gamble and Star Of The Crop.I think Caller's best crops were his early crops in Florida.

I think Caller IDs career is not dissimilar to that of a lot of sons of Phone Trick at stud. There really has been limited success for the group. Confide now in OK, Semoran now in OK. Mazel Trick off to BC. Zavata has been heavily promoted but it looks as if his fate will be similar based on performance so far. Initdab holds some minor intrigue based upon his limited numbers, but that minor luster fades as well.

Intidab has number issues because of a waning lack of interest.Do some research on past stallion reports and compare to number of registered foals.He has an honest Grade 2 SW out of a good racemare that failed miserably with stallions such as Relaunch,Halo,Unbridled,Seattle Slew,A.P.Indy and Deputy Minister.His other Stakes Winners are in restricted New York stakes and a stakes winner in Italy.His 82% winners from starters sure sounds impressive but does it sound as impressive when known that the number comes from 42% starters from foals ? Intidab should be in a regional program where they care about him as a horse and not a number.

Mazel Trick went to Canada because the syndicate got tired of paying ridiculous board bills.A lot don't realize it's not the farms paying for all that advertising,it's the shareholders.That's why a lot of these stallions without the high stud fee's end up elsewhere.I have one stallion I was going to buy more shares of until I got whopped with a $2700 yearly farm fee.This is a 40 share syndicate with 21 of the shares controlled by the farm he's at which still calculates out to a $51,300 a year stallion upkeep bill.Personally Mazel trick is one hell of a sire---$10 million in earnings in 6 crops for a $3500 stud fee and he has many $100,000 plus earners.

Semoran ended up at Oklahoma Equine for one reason and one reason only.It's called tax write off by donation---can't remember if it was fertility issues or a leg injury.Still a decent horse to breed to for a $1000

Reality to the Phone Trick's,they were bred to run,not commercially.The problem was that Favorite Trick,Confide,Mazel Trick,Semoran,Caller I.D.,Zavata ran beyond the mold of hard knocking racehorse.Phone Trick's reputation came from breeding modest mares and he put honest,hard knocking,bill paying day to day racehorses on the ground.It's the ones in Kentucky that took these honest racehorses and tried to make them something they are not.Which was commercial in Kentucky as stallion prospects.It could also be why they work so well in regional programs with modest mares.A state is only a location,it doesn't mean they are lesser.There's more value breeding for racehorses in the regional programs than there is in Kentucky.

It's a good thing they didn't think they had to all stand in Kentucky in the old days or Northern Dancer would be non-existant.He never stood in Kentucky.Maryland and that lowly Canada was where he had homes.

And for all that matter goes on Phone Trick sons,at least he can put some sons on the ground.How many successful sons of leading sires Rahy or Dynaformer can you name off.I stood Blumin Affair by Dynaformer in his 2nd season and he is a great regional sire that now stands in Nebraska.I've tried to find even a decent reginal prospect by him since to no avail.There are more races run every week across America that are 1 mile or less in distance and are called maidens,claimers and allowance races and many have state bred restrictions.Those are the ones paying the bills for 95% of my clients and when we get the stakes horse that's the bonus.

It's worth noting that Gather The Clan and her daughters throw some very good runners when bred to speed, hence Intidab being a successful cross.

I have my own son of Phone Trick. I thought Michael Ventura did a very nice job in the Pedigree Post piece he wrote on Rocking Trick. To me, it was nothing short of amazing that Phone Trick accomplished what he did with the mare pool he had. My horse was bred in the US for a Southern Hemisphere foal, and sent to Argentina, where he was quite a star. His dam, Razzi Cat, might have been one of the best mares Phone Trick saw. Rocking Trick's half sister was no slouch either.

When I got the horse I made the decision to stand him at home and use my resources to race as many offspring as possible, rather than send him to a big farm to stand. I have very strong faith in the stallion. He very much stamps his offspring and hopefully they will all run at least as well as he could.

JC Intidab has a much larger crop that are 2 this year. There are 37 2 year olds of which only 1 raced and won. Three and up he has 26 foals 21 runners and 17 winners. Not counting the large 2 year old crop he has 81% runners to foals. He has 82% winners to runners average earnings of over $74K and 18% black type to runners.Three stakes winners and a stakes placed winner from 26 foals. Semoran has no stakes winners but he does have 4 stakes placed but his average earnings per runner are below $27K. Intidab is doing nicely in my opinion.
