Pedigree Query

Yeah, I see that stickied thread up there, but that was more a listing of who was retiring...

I was just reading the Five-Cross Pedigree blog and looking at the different opinions of the stallions that started this year. Have to admit, haven't give much thought to most of the new stallions so was wondering if the consensus here runs along with what's being posted there. Was kind of surprised to note not a single person mentioned Street Sense. Hard Spun seems a bit of a gimme choice, but who else is on your short list (or who else did you end up using)?

#1 for me would have to be Istan. 1200m turf winner at 2 and 8.5 dirt winner at 5. Gone West over Bluebird from the family of Mill Reef, Moscow Ballet, Peterof, Mane Minister, Fuji Kiseki. At first glance, it's hard not to like him especially at $10k.

I instantly thoguht of Purim when reading your post. I'm glad other people think he's promising.

I bred Express to Boston to Istan this year. I like him a lot. Great opportunity.

Istan is my first choice also.

I like Sun King @ 10K also. Think he could be another good commercial decision.

Outside of KY I like High Cotton in Florida though not as accomplished, but in a regional market.

Purim, like him but personally would need to see him produce before investing. Not any reason to believe the Dynaformer line will continue, at least not yet.

I liked Sun King until I saw his hocks.

I LOVED Silent Name, especially at 7500, just didn't have the "right" mare.

Madelyn: My Highest Honor mare, Crousille, is tested in foal to Silent Name. I have always wanted to get some Halo/Sunday Silence back on this side of the Pacific.

My Theatrical mare, Variety, is in foal to Action This Day. I think he is going to make a good sire also.

Finally, My Shadeed mare is in foal to Jazil. I just had to give that female family a shot, even though Jazil was a Belmont winner devoid of speed.

We went with Silent Name as well. And Master Command.

I thought there were some very interesting new stallion choices this year but we didn't end up using any of them. Except for the bump-at-the-sales aspect, it seems kind of hard to justify when you can usually get proven stallions--even good, exciting, commercial proven stallions--for the same money or less.

Are they as bad as they look in this picture, or is it just the angle of the photo? He doesn't seem to have a conformation shot yet.

That photo is pretty accurate. Also, the left foreleg is a bit of a mess.

This was posts from last year, but I have to say while Istan does offer an exceptional pedigree, his physical looks equally impressive (I love the picture of him on stallionregister.com: http://www.bloodhorse.com/stallion-regi ... nglesearch ). Have you seen him in person? Boy he looks like a race horse!
